Sexy Parodius JP PSX with spine card.
Twinkle Star Sprites JP Neo-Geo CD without spine card.
League Bowling JP Neo-Geo CD without spine card.
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special JP Neo-Geo CD without spine card.
Philosoma US PSX complete.
Strikers 1945 JP PSX without spine card.
Total: Around $167 shipped.
Sexy Parodius and Twinkle Star Sprites costing me an arm and an leg. League Bowling and Real Bout I got from a trade, and both Philosoma and Strikers 1945 I got from ebay for a good price. Sexy Parodius is just funny to play, Twinkle Star Sprites is great on 2 Players. League Bowling is fun and easy, Real Bout might have long loading times, but it's worth it. Philosoma for getting it cheap is really great for a shmup. Strikers 1945 on the PSX is actually a great port of the arcade game. While the Saturn port was a little better than the PSX port, the PSX port can stand on its own two feet. The only odd part is that Strikers 1945 II plays horrible on the Saturn, but plays a lot better on the PSX.

On the upper symbol bar, use the button right of the white smilie, then you can put attachements from your PC to your post.
Or use the yellow button with the mountains on the lower symbol bar to put pics from other websites in here.
I think....
And now for my haul:
Double Dragon and Shinobi, both complete for my beloved new Master System. Those games cost me 6,-€ including shipping.

They cost me 13,40 € (including shipping and shipping insurement)
The games are...
-Tiny Toon Adventure
-Ghouls'n Ghosts
-Space Harrier 2
-Quackshot (japanese)
-Toki
-DJ Boy (japanese)
-Alien Soldier (PAL):D :D :D

Joe Redifer

I wouldn't want to play a PAL Alien Soldier on a Genesis. It would be sped up and too spastic, since that game was "optimized" for PAL when it was brought out over there. The Japanese version is the only way to go if you have an NTSC console and want to play the game properly.
David J.
12-18-2006, 07:44 PM
So if you played it in 60HZ, it'd be really fucked up?
Joe Redifer
12-18-2006, 08:17 PM
Well since it is a "native" 50Hz game in that region, then yeah.

I have Alien Soldier (PAL) and as Joe says, it sucks to be played in 60 Hz. I'm forced to play with squashed screen in 50 Hz. Otherwise I can get the Jap version, which is too expensive and not really necessary actually. I don't find Alien Soldier that important, so I'll just stick with the much cheaper PAL version I got.

what do you mean by squashed screen on mine it plays full screen

If he plays in 50hz... then it's a squashed screen. Play the Japanese version via emulation, and compare it to your genesis with the UK version. The sound is a lot faster. If you had the US version of Streets of Rage 2 and played it in 50hz, the audio would be a lot faster.
Anyway, I got Galactaic Attack for the Sega Saturn today. The case has some scratches, but the hinges are fine, and the game looks like it has never been played! $4.99

No, it would be a lot slower.
redrum666: The game won't be unplayable because you play it in 60 Hz, but everything will be too fast since the PAL version is optimized as Joe says, which means the PAL version isn't 16.7% slower in all aspects like many other PAL games are.
David J.

I most certainly am not. I think you are just a bit sensitive to the issue since you happen to own the PAL version. The game is a bit faster on your NTSC system, but nowhere did I say it was "unplayable". I just prefer playing games at their originally intended speed. Would you like to play a slow Sonic 1 in PAL? No, you'd hate it. But still, it's playable. :)

Iīm happay with my PAL-Alien Soldier. I find the game kind of mediocre myself, but I want to build up a good collection with most of the important games, and Alien Soldier is definately an important title. And...it was very cheap: Alien Soldier plus 6 other games (quite a few good ones as well) for less than 15,-€.:o
As for PAL-speed/squashed screen: it doesnīt really disturb you if you donīt know the games the way they were originally meant to be. Sonic is still very fast, and after a while you donīt notice the PAL-bars anymore (or you even like them for the cinematic feeling).
Itīs nice to see that Sega put effort in some of their PAL-versions. NTSC is not generally superior to the PAL-standard. NTSC has more frames, PAL has a higher resolution. The best is PAL 60, a standard the European Dreamcast used and that combines both systems advantages.
Problem is that back in the 16-Bit games they didnīt put the effort into converting games properly to PAL. And since most games came from NTSC-countries originally, we Europeans and Australians had bad luck.
This is getting better today, although I almost cried when I first played my beloved Final Fantasy X in PAL and about one-third of the screen was black and Yuna seemed to have a serious weight-problem....
But in the last 1 or 2 years most games have been properly converted, so in the region-free future you Americans donīt have to worry about buying low-quality PAL-versions anymore!

I have both system now and Jp megadrive is awesome but not as bright as pal!
Joe Redifer
12-20-2006, 07:13 PM
Are you playing the two consoles on the same TV? That could be why. If you had a real NTSC TV, then there shouldn't be much/any difference in the brightness. Well NTSC video does suck, but if the PAL console was hooked up via RGB and the NTSC hooked up the same way (or component), then there shouldn't be any color or brightness differences. I keep forgetting how much NTSC sucks since I stopped using it for everything except the NES.

There's an adapter out there that allows you to plug a TG16 controller into a Duo. If you're feeling extra ballsy, you can do some modifications to the Turbo controller in question, as long as you have a spare Duo pad to swap parts with. There's more info here: http://overclocked.org/emuturbofaq.txt.. find the phrase "PcEngine and TG16/Duo Controllers."
Kickass Virtual Console picks, by the way.

Joe Redifer

You will if you have a good component TV. I assume you'll be using a Genesis 1 and a 32X with that, as otherwise you won't have any sound unless you do a small mod to the converter. You can also remove the 32X and just use the adapter cable that goes between the Genesis and 32X if you want.
Good games that show lots of difference between composite and component:
-Game Genie title screen (where the red genie is) - much less color bleed.
-Midnight Resistance (in the weapons select room)
-Batman (don't walk sign)
-Any game with the color red in it.

I have looked in to everything, so the only thing I need to do is purchase the stuff.. damn paypal taking forever to transfer funds, and going to radio shack to buy the adaptor. I have Batman and a Game Genie. And yes, I'll be using a Genesis 1 and a 32X. I already have the audio going out of the headphone jack, so I'm pretty psyched.

I've FINALLY got my grubby hands on a Japanese copy of Sparkster and Sonic 3. A cartridge slot expander's on the way, too, so I can slice a trace on that rather than fiddle with tape when dumping cartridges :)

You buy both a cartridge slot expander and a 32X? You can get Jap carts into the 32X (not Sunsoft's though).

I'm using a Mega-CD program to dump cartridges. To stop cartridges from running when you turn on the Mega Drive, you need to disconnect a connector pin on the cartridge - with the label facing you, it's the one furthest to the right. Right now I'd have to stick a bit of Sellotape over it or something to break the connection between the pin and the Mega Drive cartridge slot. The problem with this method is that it's fiddly, and could probably end up with bits of Sellotape stuck in the slot. If I get a cartridge slot expander and cut the right-hand pin permanently, all I need to do would be to plug the cartridge I want into the expander, which won't start as the pin is cut permanently.
A 32X uses the same power lead as a model 2 Mega Drive, right?
Zebbe
12-31-2006, 05:49 PM
I see. Is it the Mega Cart you are using?
Yes, the 32X and Mega Drive II has the same power lead. You need one for the 32X and one for the Mega Drive though.

Shadowrun is definitely a keen find, especially complete. Mortal Kombat is at least worth keeping for the novelty alone. Madden '93 will circulate forever in collectors limbo, eternally passing from one set of uncaring hands to the next..

Sodom
Isn't Sodom in the US version? I don't see why he wouldn't be, especially since Sega of America was located in San Francisco, one of the gayest cities on the planet. They would have loved a guy named "Sodom".
Australian Master System games suck.
Yeah, the boxes are slightly smaller than real Master System games, the manuals don't fit in the holders in the box and the cartridges have weird white lines on the stickers. I am beginning to think that Australia might not be a real country.
David J.
01-16-2007, 07:48 PM
Well, there's not too many PAL Master System games I want... so I'll probally import from the UK or something.
I think I can count what I want on one hand. Thankfully just about everything I want is damned cheap... nothing stupidly rare like Power Strike 2, or Home Alone. But the suspense kills me. Power Strike 2 wouldn't be too bad to own, but I'd never really play it, and it's a lot of money.

I don't think he is. Sega of America removed the fag of Bare Knuckle 3, so why should Sodom have been spared? These games were sold to christians you know. Most christians seem to hate fags, which I don't understand since Jesus loves everybody.

Yeah, Sodom's new name of Katana was in the Sega CD version. But all they did for the US Sega CD version was change names and add a little clothing -- unlike the SNES version, they didn't remove any characters or stages or anything. Also I think the dialogue was allowed to be slightly racier in the Sega CD version, e.g. "You son of a..." instead of "You fiend!".
In any case, from what I gather, Japan's not exactly progressive when it comes to gay rights, so I don't see why the gay thing is less of an issue there. I'm inclined to think that we're just bigger on censorship in general.
Zebbe
01-17-2007, 04:53 PM
I think Jap folks are just "...whatever" in gay stuff, while the lobby of right-wing conservative christians in the USA are more working against it. Therefor, games with homosexual themes would cause bigger protests in USA. At least that's how I see it.
Joe Redifer
01-17-2007, 08:36 PM
I thought that all of Japan was gay. Look at the ever-so-popular Final Fantasy "Male" characters. And some of the previous Castlevania art. They love gayness over there. They also have a series call Chew on Nikki or something like that. It's a shooter with naked men huddled together and an overall gay theme.

The Story of Poison
One of the most popular side characters is Poison, the scantily clad, purple haired dominatrix girl (also appearing with red hair as Roxy), who's also never been playable outside of Final Fight Revenge. She appears alongside Hugo in every game she's in, and she's at least reasonably popular in...ahem...certain Japanese fan artist circles. She's also one of the most controversial character Capcom has ever created. There wasn't any problem with her being in the Japanese game, but when importing it to other countries, the American divisions had a problems with players being able to beat up women. So, in a somewhat clever move, Capcom Japan decided that Roxy and Poison were both transsexuals (or "newhalves", if you want to use the Japanese terminology), so even though they looked like chicks, they were actually 100% dude. I suppose this makes beating them up more of a hate crime than regular domestic abuse, but I've never been one to figure out political correctness anyway. By the time Final Fight Revenge came out, the design team, completely separate from the original developers, had decided that Poison was in fact a girl and she had a crush on Cody. Her ending seems to suggest that she may go through the operation so she can be by Cody's side. Capcom's official stance is that she's still a guy, although that may be in question.
Poison was meant to star in Capcom Fighting All Stars, a 3D fighting game that was eventually canned and morphed into the mediocre 2D fighter Capcom Fighting Evolution - which had no evidence of Poison. She was edited entirely out of the SNES and Gameboy Advance versions of the game, replaced with spiky haired male bad guys, and while's she present in the Sega CD version, extra clothes were added.

Good move, that's the same guy I bought a ton of Dreamcast peripherals and Flux from.
I've finally won a complete copy of Toejam & Earl, too. Seems like this could potentially be an upcoming 'eBay darling' to rival Gunstar Heroes. I'm also pretty chuffed with the Comix Zone I won last week, it came with the 'limited edition 6-track audio CD' inside. Was this same CD released in the States under the Sega Tunes label?
I've been on a soundtrack hunt lately, too. Daytona USA: Circuit Edition arrived three days ago, to go with the two Sonic Heroes soundtracks, Shadow the Hedgehog: Lost And Found and Segarocks Live in Japan. Otaku.co.uk messed me around regarding an OutRun2 soundtrack, and I'd still give an arm and a kidney for the Daytona USA 2: BotE soundtrack. :(

Bought the Insignia stereo receiver from Best Buy for my computer. I needed a cheap receiver because the amps on my old Pioneer were dying. The sign in Best Buy said that this was a stereo receiver... with Pro Logic 2! I laughed at their stupidity.
Anyway the receiver is OK. When adjusting the balance, it says the left channel is getting louder on the display when in actuality the right channel is (yes, I have it hooked up correctly). Also when you put it into standby and turn it back on later, the volume resets to very low and the balance settings reset, but not the bass and treble settings. Odd receiver, but oh well.

Was this same CD released in the States under the Sega Tunes label?
its not really limited edition every copy of Comix Zone came with that music cd even the PC release

My CD had more than 6 tracks. I think more around 12. I can't be assed to go look for it to check though.
