View Full Version : Composite video quality of the 32X??

I was comparing my Genesis' video qualities to one another the other day, and while I did notice the Samsung chip sucks, and the CXA 1645 is noticeably better than both the Samsung, and CXA1145...I noticed how the 32X video was sharper, and had much less color bleed/artifacts/ghosting in comparison to the CXA chips, and also seemed to have none of the cons I noticed on the Samsung chip.

However, I notice some static like flickering on things like the Sega logo, and places where there are horizontal lines, such as the vents in the opening area of Metallic Madness in Sonic CD...(and other non CD, Genesis games, so IMHO that's not a factor)

So, the reason I'm making this thread, is to see if anyone else notices this staticy interference in their 32X video...

Is my 32X just dirty or something?

My friends Sega CD used to this with all his CD games, to a much much worse extent, the contacts between his Sega CD and Genesis would need cleaning.

I've cleaned my 32X and Genesis cart ports/slots, and this flickering persists.

Any ideas?
The video is really sharp, colorful, bright, and clear in comparison to the other video chips.
Significantly less color bleed, and I don't notice any ghosting like with the vanilla Genesis video.
...stupid static - always something wrong : (

I think the soem 32xs have problems with video noise, I don't remember if it's in RGB or just composite, but is due to interferance of some cheap component ont he board iirc. (which can be replaced to solve the problem)
It may be a bad connection through one of the ribbon cables, in which case they just need soem cleaning and reseating. (unless you've got one of the 32xs with impossibly tight ribbon cable connections which necessitate resoldering)

Ah.
Well, hopefully I'll be able to get it worked out when I get send my systems out to be modded.

the interface can be softened when a better power supply filtering coil is used, and some extra supply filtering caps are supplied.

Are there any negative effects to doing that?
