In the first time in fifteen years, a new full title has been released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril Battle Kid was inspired from I Wanna Be The Guy and has a distinctive Mega Man/Metroidvania feel to it. It is very challenging, but not to the point where you give up in frustration every five minutes. (At least I haven't yet)

The game is available for purchase here: http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=86

The cartridge is a neon green translucent plastic that looks great. It comes with a full color manual and Nintendo dust sleeve.

Since its release on Monday, it has sold out twice. I was fortunate enough to procure my own copy and I have been thoroughly enjoying it.

A demo version is available for emulation here: http://www.nintendoage.com/media/_usermedia/attachments/BK%2Ddemo1%2Ezip

Hope you enjoy your classic 2D platforming adventure!!

Makes me wish I owned a NES, I might snag one up anyways though!

They shoulda just went all the way with it and made cardboard cases.

They did, but only for the limited release. There was only 33 of those produced, and they went for $65, I think, which is too much for me to spend on an NES game, even though it is very awesome.

Eh, $65 now would probably be $200 later on feebay.

Thanks for the news RollingStoner, interesting stuff.

I must say though, this is not up to par with the Genesis work coming out lately. I'm sure it's tons of fun, but the graphics are pretty 'meh' in my opinion, even for back in the day.

Compared to Beggar Prince or what we've seen of Pier Solar the NES scene is still pretty amateur. Their site says there's no availability until March either! Those are small runs! But it's great to see new games for any old consoles.

Don't confuse 16bit graphics and 16bit games, with that of an NES caliber game. The game doesn't have top of the line NES graphics, but they are definitely adequate and are up to snuff. Sivak spent a lot of time on the design and gameplay mechanics of the game. And his music skills are awesome (he did the whole game himself, everything). The game has some incredible music IMO. This is definitely a top notch title.

Also, Begger Prince isn't homebrew. I'm not sure why it keeps getting mentioned as such on forums. And not to knock Pier Solar, but sivak completed his game with in a year and will be out before Pier Solar. Pier Solar is what, 6+ years in the making? That's quite a bit more development time to get things.. well, prime and perfect. The NES dev scene is actually bigger than the MD/Genesis dev scene. What that translates to, we'll see. But given the MD/Genesis scene doesn't have anything out *yet*, on par with Battlekid - NES 1 : Genesis 0. (There are some tiny games available to buy for the NES homebrew scene, but nothing that I would count towards. And I think 1 homebrew game for Genesis/Megadrive (that card game) )

Yeah, I'm really impressed by how this was all done by one person. The game is absolutely amazing, it's as if it was released during the heyday of the NES. I have been following the development of this for about a year, I was debating whether or not to bring this up here, because I wasn't sure if anyone here had heard of it. I decided to make this thread because it is a sick game and deserves all the exposure it gets. BUY IT!!!

I ordered a copy of this on Wednesday. Should be fun, even if it's just for the novelty of playing a new NES game, but the game itself looks pretty good, too. It's even spurred me to look into the NES homebrew scene and see if it's something I'd be willing to try out.

Hell yeah, I'm sure this game will not disappoint. I'd go as far to say that it is one of the best NES games I've ever played, and by far the best NES homebrew ever made. I hope to see more NES homebrew of this caliber. It is pretty sweet to be playing a brand spanking new NES game, I love it. In fact, I'm gonna fire this up right now. Toodles.

So I got the game on Monday. All I've got to say so far is that it's balls-hard. Deliciously so.

Yes, yes it is. So, how far are you into it now?

ok, am I the only one aware that this is heavily inspired by "I Wanna Be the Guy"?

I believe I mentioned that in my original post, and by that I mean I did. Anyway, I enjoy this more than IWBTG, it's nowhere near as frustrating, but still plenty hard.
