Strange Message (Dr. Robotnik NTSC cart in PAL Mega Drive)

Hi,

back when I got a Nomad I got a NTSC-copy of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine as well. For some reason I only played it on the handheld and not on my main console (which, since I'm German, is an European PAL Moldel 2 Mega Drive).

So recently I pop the cart in my machine... and get this regional lockout message:

It has region protection. There might be a Game Genie code to skip the protection. Check with Tony H.

I remember reading your story on how you discovered the MD, and you got like a dozen MD variants but your main console is a PAL model 2 MD ?

@Christuserloeser: I'm currently having troubles with my MD1 (the one with the High Quality graphics), I think some condensators are busted... so I reverted back to the Pal Model 2 with a Mega CD attached...

this is regional lockout, only cure is PAR/GG code or region modding or MEga Key or such.

If I remember correctly there was Japanese staff involved in morphing Puyo Puyo into Mean Bean Machine. It's just the graphics that are done by SOA's staff.

Just for kicks, I checked the "Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (U) [!].bin" ROM and guess what... they made the typo twice...

Developed for use onry with ntsc genesis system.

Developed for use onry with pal and french secam Mega Drive System.

Hah, I never noticed that typo. Have to check it sometime with my PAL cartridge in my region modded MD1.

Speaking of which, if you've got a region modded Mega Drive, you can just start up the game in NTSC to circumvent the region lock and then switch back to PAL if you want. ;)

What I find to be strange about the region lock out screen with the typo is that not only would you think that they would have caught their mistake but the "r" is not even close to the "l" on a standard keyboard.
