Langrisser 2 is excellent, and has received a very high quality fan translation as well so get your flashcart ready. If you're just getting into the genre though, Shining Force 2 might be a better choice for your first.

Shining Force 1 is maybe 10% RPG and 90% strategy.

@matteus: Dune 2 is one of my personal favorites as well. I like everything about it. It's very different from the PC and Amiga versions, yet it manages to achieve the same quality.

Other than what was already mentioned there are a few Japanese exclusives - like Hybrid Front, Vixen 357, and Dyna Bros. 1 & 2 which certainly would be worthy of a fan translation project. Here's a video of Dyna Bros. 2 that Olls posted in a different thread:

Interesting! Doesn't look like I have the patience for it considering I'd much rather play real RTS games on a computer... but still, looks like a novel concept and ahead of it's time when it was around.

It's really an excellent game worth of picking up if you enjoy RTS. Much like Dune II btw.

Looks cool, but I prefer Warcraft 3, Starcraft 1/2, Supreme Commander, Dawn of War 1/2, and about 20 others on the Comp.


RTS is meant to be played with a mouse and KB... same as FPSs.

I've got 40+ RTSs on the Comp that are top notch... so... if this one is more than $10... meh, it will not be worth it considering I've already got more than enough to play on the Comp.
