You should look into getting a import saturn. Its better and plays all the imports.

But then you're still limited to one territory, a caveat he is looking to avoid by having a region switch.
I'd suggest just getting a domestic console and a good 4-in-1 cart. You won't be able to play King of Fighters '95 or Ultraman, but everything else should be fine. It's a bit cheaper than the alternative.
In the 90s I had the alternative setup on my Saturn. I had a domestic console with a US-JP territory switch, both of the official RAM expansion carts, an official memory cart, and an ST Key (for PAL games); the only game I couldn't play was the UK release of KoF '95. The problem with that is that it's significantly more money to get all that than it is to get a 4-in-1 cart which is just as good. You can get a 4-in-1 cart for about $20, and it eliminates the territory lockout, serves for both the RAM expansion carts, has space for game saves (though only for archiving, you have to make your actual save to the internal memory and transfer it), and allows Action Replay codes.
Reason I was asking is b/c I'm considering installing a switch and selling mine. Though I doubt i'll sell, b/c I need me some Evangelion games =)

Mod the machine yourself, if you're good with a soldering iron.

(This guy has information on how to mod a load of consoles, including the Mega Drive/Genesis (http://users.skynet.be/DuNe/djoen.html))
