Have you all noticied...give you some examples. not picking on any co. particular.

'P'-'l'-'a'-'y'-'s'-'t'-'a'-'t'-'i'-'o'-'n'-'3' on FAT PS3 models. I polish my piano black MGS4 PS3 every two weeks to prevent scratches on the case/finish. I need to be careful of wax build up near the lettering of playstation since each letter is a little emblem. Still though its very neat that Sony made the letters in chrome and just POP from the black finish that give the message 'Play Beyond'.

I go to a resale shop and see a FAT PS3 on display either a 40GB 2-USB port or 80GB 2 USB port. being in a resale i observe all the insane micro scratches all over it. and the 'Playstation 3' on the case is just that ..just a painted on logo in silver paint. ..Boring but its just a early sign Sony was cutting corners to save cash..Then the PS3 SLIM is just that ..boring and cheap looking.

Example -2
Guitar Hero Metallica -XB360
Have you ever held the case yet. It seems there is 1/2 the amount of plastic used when made compared to a normal dvd case. It so thin that just feels crappy. not sure if its only a Activision thing, but also DJ hero case...is even worse. Without bending the disc the case was flexing so much even when holding your thumb on the center. Even the artwork started creasing because the clips were so strong holding the game yet the sides were so thin.

Example -3
System boxes since Saturn are junk. they are made as small as they can be to fit only the system and stuff all other components anywhere possible. when a systems get old I return it to it's own box when i stop playing it. Since Dreamcast I can never get my newer console back in the box the way they are suppose to go.

When a console is first released, the company generally puts more into the first boxes since they're going to charge the most for them anyway. As time goes by, people expect the price to drop, so the companies find ways to drop the price, which includes a cheaper (in all respects) case. EVERY company does it, without exception. Does anyone really want to argue that the SEGA Genesis Model 3 has a better case than the Model 1 or 2? Most people argue that the Model 1 is the best, and each model after that got progressively cheaper... and that's exactly the case (pun intended). It was true then - it is true now.

True that was more toward the end of life of the Genesis. N64 was never like that nor did Sega do it for DC or even Saturn. Sega did cut back on the Saturn box though for 2nd model revision. Only instance I can think back then is when Sega went to cardboard sleeves for genesis games from original clamshells. Either way you got to agree its worse now than then..

That's because those systems only lasted 3 or 4 years each. Genesis had a way longer lifespan than that.

Only certain companies are guilty. Nintendo did issue a redesigned NES, but it is highly sought after and actually worth more than the original front loader. SNES was repackaged later on, but N64 and Gamecube remained the same throughout their respective lifespans.

Microsoft stayed with same design for the entire Xbox life cycle.

Worst thing I saw was when Sega went from plastic clamshells to cardboard boxes for their game cartridges. Lame.

They did do color revisions for the N64 and GameCube. And don't forget the N64 pikachu edition.

.

Not true. The newer Gamecubes don't support the component cable, since the digital port was removed to cut costs.

I think he was talking about the quality of the plastic on the newer ones, not the number of ports. Consoles like the GameCube, XBox, or N64 look the same (other than maybe color). Are they really the same? Don't know... I don't think I've seen a comparison of early GCs cases vs later ones.

Well, from a front view they are the same, but the newer Gamecubes don't have the digital port in the back, or serial port 2 on the bottom.

You could say the Wii was the last GC revision. ;)
