I remember reading the rumor page of EGM and seeing something about the upcoming Rebel Assualt for the Sega CD contraining 128 colors. Having never played the game I never found out the validity. I am sure this information is incorrect as the screen shots looked muddy as hell but perhaps someone knows for sure. I keep reading of various games using over 64 colors but have never seen concrete info, only "heard to contain over 64 colors..."
Thanks

A game could put all 512 colors onscreen and you might not be able to tell simply because the actual colors themselves don't change. What I mean by that is you have the same 512 colors to choose from as always, and Sega only put 5 or 6 really nice, bold colors in there it seems like sometimes. If only there was a way to change the actual library of colors, then even 64 wouldn't seem so bad.

Well, the PC version didn't look too hot when it came out, so I really doubt the Sega CD version looked good at all.
I have the PC version somewhere, it was a ok game at best and nothing to get excited over.

Never been a color freak as living with a genesis has always kept me grounded but I always found it interesting to hear about "new" techniques to push the hardware. Being a SMS adopter in 4th grade I was used to more colorful games than my NES friends. The upgrade to genesis was all about parallax scrolling for me. Loved the Strider snow level jump. Makes me dizzy everytime.

I don't think the PC version of Rebel Assault pushed more than 64 colors at once. If memory serves, some of the levels were horribly dithered & pixelated.

I have Rebel Assault for the Sega CD, but I don't have a Sega CD. From what I can tell from the box though it's just a watered down version of the PC title.

Rebel Assault II was only released on PC and is far superior to the first one.

There was also a PSX version of the second game, and it even sold enough copies to get released as a greatest hits. How, or why it sold that many is beyond me.
