Only problem, it's in French. Only Canadians and maybe also French people speak French. They should have translated it into English instead, since people from Sweden, Australia, India, Canada and maybe also England speak English. This is unfortunate, but at least we now know the game isn't "untranslateable" like I heard some years ago.

And yet he posts a google link that translates it from French to Swedish.

One month ago I decided that I was going to teach myself French. Today, I see a post detailing that Surging Aura, a game that I have wanted to play for ages, is beening translated into French. Coincidence? I think not.

I know you're joking there, but I'll run with it.

Don't you people know that what the Quebecois speak isn't french, but scallywag/pirate-french-wannabe-spit-talk. :p
Seriously, have you ever listened to a frenchman & a french-canadian have a conversation?

Busted for hotlinking. :p

Look on the bright side: translating it from French is a hell of a lot easier than from Japanese. We should definitely see an English translation sooner or later.

I can't remember half of it since I never needed to use it on a daily basis. I can't speak it, but I can still read and understand, if I take my time with it. This should be interesting.

The problem with Surging Aura wasn't the lack of a translation, it was that the game needed to be hacked-to-shit to inject the english, wasn't it? I was going to look at it, but didn't when I heard that the game sucked anyway.

Any translation news is great. But is Surging Aura actually good? What games would you be able to compare it to? And is it turn based?

Where I grew up we had more Italians then French so I'm more familiar with the WOP speak. The only thing I remember from High school was the verb conjugations. Whenever I visit Quebec the french just point and laugh at me.

They're not really French. You have to make sure to designate them properly as Qubecois.

I like the French, they make good food, electro and films. The Qubecois make poutine, steal our taxes to preserve their 'culture' and threaten to leave all the time, despite the fact that nobody has ever stopped them.

Can't wait to play it!

This is good news indeed, but I can't help but think that translating it from Japanese to French and then from French to English might hurt the translation. Oh well, I should be more optimistic. Hope this leads to something, I'm really interested in playing this game in English (or Swedish :P).

The game will be undoubtedly be rewritten to tell a glorious love story about Roch Voisine, Celine Dion, and focus around an Evil Mime wizard named Pierre Trudeau.

That's surely what Vic Ireland would do if he was Canadian and exposed to French-Quebec culture.

I seriously dreamt this last nite: I visited the place where I lived until I was 13. There was a pub there, often visited by an old geezer who introduced RPGs to me. And as I walked passed this pub in my dream, it looked like it was re-opened and it had a new name: "Surging Aura" :D.

The game will be undoubtedly be rewritten to tell a glorious love story about Roch Voisine, Celine Dion, and focus around an Evil Mime wizard named Pierre Trudeau.

Actually I think they would change the story a little so it goes something like this:

Snake Simpson, a former student of Degrassi High, and now teacher at Degrassi Community School, has arranged a mixed reunion for the classes of 1991 and 1992. Spike Nelson, Caitlin Ryan, and Lucy Fernandez, who also attended Degrassi High, plan on attending and try to persuade Joey Jeremiah to join them. Joey, however, is reticent as he is still dealing with his grief over the death of his wife. Along with Caitlin's fiancé Keith, the five friends go out to a bar for the night, reminiscing about the past and discussing their present lives.

Spike's daughter, Emma is told by her online boyfriend, Jordan, that he is coming to Toronto for a school field trip, and asks her if she would like to meet him for the first time. Her friends, Manny Santos, J. T. Yorke and Toby Isaacs warn her of the potential dangers of meeting somebody she only knows from the Internet, and tell her that he could be an Internet stalker, pointing out that schools do not take field trips in the middle of summer. However, Emma is undeterred, convinced that Jordan is just a normal boy with whom she shares the same interests.

At the reunion party, Joey and Caitlin meet Alison Hunter, another Degrassi High attendee. As the evening progresses, Joey overhears Keith and Alison flirting with each other and Keith reveals he does not want to marry Caitlin. When Joey confronts Keith, their argument turns into a physical altercation, and Alison has to tell Caitlin about Keith's hesitance over getting married. Joey and Caitlin have a heart-to-heart discussion about their past and their relationships, and after ten years, finally make amends, while Wheels apologizes to Lucy for crippling her while driving drunk nine years ago.

While her mother attends the reunion, Emma visits Jordan at his hotel where she meets his teacher, Mr. Nystrom. He takes her up to Jordan's hotel room but as they enter, Emma sees that it is completely empty except for a video camera which has been set up. She immediately becomes suspicious and tries to escape but Nystrom blocks her access to the bedroom door. She locks herself in the bathroom, and comes to the startling realization that Nystrom is Jordan. Nystrom apologizes, and tells her he will let her go, but when she comes out of the bathroom, he grabs and restrains her.

Unable to get in contact with Emma, Manny tells Toby and J. T. that she is afraid that Emma may have gone to meet Jordan. They break into Emma's e-mail account and realize that Jordan has told her a number of lies. They discover which hotel Emma is meeting Jordan at, and rush to the school to inform Spike. As Nystrom attempts to rape Emma, Spike and Snake arrive just in time to save her. Emma manages to break free from Nystrom and rushes out of the hotel room. Snake restrains Nystrom until the police arrive to take him away.

It's awesome to see that this game is finally playable. However there still are some flaws : the save menu doesn't work and there is a spell that makes the game crash each time you cast it. I guess I'll just wait a little longer for the new revision of the patch :)

Noble Bahamut
03-23-2010, 01:59 PM
Hi!

I'm "Bahamut" (Nicolas R.) from TT & TRAF!

I'm pleased to see you interested in this translation! I'm the japanese translator of Surging Aura (as Bahamut Lagoon, Le trésor Secret des Rudras & now SO Blue Sphere & SoM retranslation script) (and partial english translator of ToP, SD3, DC, BoF1/2, CT, etc.) for Terminus Traduction & TRAF french translation scene.

I'm back after 2 years of inactivity with the translation scene. Then, why came back?

If I wrote on your forum after your comments, it's because of Sega-16 reviews & "Lost in Translation" article. This site learnt me a MD (Genesis for you) wasn't translated since so many years. Then, I tried to played it, and it was very fun (maybe a little difficult, sometimes ^^, My god, I'm dead so many times) & finally, it enjoyed me! ^_- Then, I decided to translate at new! ^^ Thanks for Sega-16 team & their forums! ^^

After I saw this game was hardly "hackable" on many sites, I'm almost abandonned before to try... But I'm said : "Why not see the rom by myself?!" & I found the script on no time bec' no compression. 0.o & no script ensnared by many octets (as I read on another site).

For the translation, I just created a graphic MTE/DTE & no problem for insert the script divided by 1/3 - 2/3. (you can see it in the rom with Tlayer : it's only a long long time for create it bec' I'm not a programmer) ^^ I used Thingy (DOS) for reinsert! ^^ No need "high technological super-hyper-tools"! ^^

Obviously, I'm not a hacker but a very good hacker from TRAF french scene wrote for me a decompressor/compressor for compressed graphic (menus). Thanks to him, now, the translation is in beta-test.

However, the save menu, now, is corrupted but soon it will be corrected. For the only one magic corrupted, it's in all the japanese ROM therefore independent of my translation. I hope anyone will repair that. Just check youtube or any rom for see. ^_-

I really hope this game will be translated in english for you, now! ^^ I can give you my DTE/MTE table : you just need to adapt it in your language! More, you don't need the "é,è,ê,ô,ù etc etc" (so many DTE used for that) then you will have so many space to save for your "compress" script! ^^

Oh, before to leave you, sorry my english! I prefer to translate this language than wrote it! I'm more fluent in japanese! ^^,

I just hope I gave you somes informations for your translation!

encouraging you in advance,
Bahamut.

Praise to you and your co-worker(s), Noble Bahamut! :notworthy: Thank you very much for helping out with a possible English translation. I wish I could help out with that, but I'm too handicapped to do anything but testing I guess. At least there is only about 40% left of the translation to do, since English contains 60% French words, so most should be done already. This makes 100% sense!

Honestly, I would still play it in Japanese rather than doing it in French. Playing Dragon Ball Z Buyuu Retsuden in French is bearable. Playing a fully scripted RPG in French, on the other hand, isn't.

Guess I'll still have to wait for any language-friendly translation to come out eventually.

If you understand neither language anyways, then what's the difference which you play it in? :p

I wonder if there's plans to release all the tools for this one it's released? So that English translators can get to it quicker.

Awesome! A translation of an actual honest-to-god game! (no offense Bramsworth:p) Hopefully you release the tools soon so that someone can get to work on an English translation ASAP.

Cool to see you're working on Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, too, as I've always wondered how well that game translated to 8-bit. Same with ToP: Narikiri Dungeon, actually.

By the way, we still don't have a Rent-A-Hero translation... :D

Bramsworth

Honest-to-god game? Not sure what that means :P But nah, I understand that any official game is better than Taiwanese crap lol.

I'm still surprised this is happening, considering that the Eidolon's Inn tools have been available forever yet no one touched them since the game was apparently still too difficult to hack properly or something.

French is cool, I agree :)

That was me, but I've lost interest in rom hacking and moved on to coding my own games. I'm thinking of just releasing all my work and letting anyone who's interested finish it, I had progress in various games for Sega systems (Illusion City, Last Bible Special, Last Bible, Maldorian, Sorcerian, couple more I can't remember off the top of my head). At some point I might continue though, Sorcerian and Last Bible Special were two favorite projects (Last Bible S is about 75% done) so I don't know. Anything is quite a ways off though.

I got excited about the news as well.... untill I saw it was 100% in French.

I really really pray someone will translate the French version into either English or Spanish. It will probably come out in spanish first seeing as to how the Spanish rom hackers translate games off the Enlgish versions, and the English rom hackers hate translating off someone elses translation.

Either way, I would love to play this in a language I know. If not I will suffer through the french version with my limited knowledge of the language.

More than likely someone will do it. It's not hard to switch up English & French when translating. It really depends on how the rom hacking is done.
I hope someone does it and tightens up the script to make it the dialog good. It'll be a killer repro cart to have kicking around.

If this game was gonna be translated into English it would have happened years ago. The French dudes were working with the same tools that Eidolon made ages ago - the difference is that they were actually motivated to do the work and translate all the text. There simply aren't enough people in the translation scene who are both motivated and punctual and that also give a shit about the few MD relics worth translating like Surging Aura or Rent-A-Hero or whatever.

The major difference now though, is that it's been successfully translated to use a Latin alphabet without breaking anything, and it's a hell of a lot easier to get help translating from French into English, than from Japanese.

I'll have to give this a try, I took french for about 11 years in school. I find it less daunting to translate since the text is given to you a sentence at a time.
