I been on a platformer kick lately and I need need games to play. What are good titles for the PC Engine and the SNES?
Never was a fan of the SNES, I blame the pretty lame sound chip. :P

PCE: It's mostly Shooters and RPGs. It's kinda lacking in the platformer department IMO.
SNES: Not sure.
Also depends if you're looking for "platformer" or "action platformer". The EU guys tend to have a distinct definition as to what a platformer is, while JP/US tends to be more loose with the interpretation. Run 'n Guns tend to fall into the "platformer" section in a lot of US sites/forums (or, at least it used to be that way).

Any type of platformer is good enough.

PC-Engine has a good platformer or two.
Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu Adventure for one. Long name, great game. The Valis series is alright, but nothing overly spectacular. The Hu- cards are really limited for platformers. I'd say the Schibibin Man series is actually very good also.

SMW2 Yoshi's Island It's alright.
Megaman X Hate Megaman
Run Saber I forgot about this, great game!

Super Castlevania 4 Played it too many times.
Joe & Mac OOOO let me see about this SNES port
Super Bonk
ActRaiser Pass, played it before didn't like it.
Super Ghouls n Ghosts Pass
Donkey Kong Country I beat this game too many times over the years
PCE:
Ninja Spirit Really like the Arcade version more
Ninja Gaiden The beat 'em up version, nah.
Bonk's Adventure Good
Bonk's Revenge Should be good
Bonk 3 ^^
Cadash Never liked the game, even at the arcades
Shockman
Shinobi I hate the PC Engine port
For the games I didn't say anything I will try them out right now.

Joe & Mac is pretty crappy on SNES, IMO. Also, Ninja Gaiden for PC Engine is not the beat 'em up version, it's a port of the first one for NES.
This will be including regular platformers, "action platformers", and platformer RPGs, but not run n' guns.
SNES:
Claymates
Dino City
DoReMi Fantasy (import)
First Samurai
Hagane
Harley's Humongous Adventure
Jurassic Park: The Chaos Continues
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Lost Vikings 2 (kind of)
Out to Lunch
Plok
Prince of Persia 2
Rocky Rodent
Spanky's Quest
Super Adventure Island
Super Adventure Island 2
Chou Genjin 2 (Super Bonk 2, import)
Super Putty
PC Engine / Turbografx:
Camp California
Chiki Chiki Boys
Dragon's Curse (aka Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap)
Dynastic Hero (aka Wonder Boy in Monster World)
JJ & Jeff :D
Keith Courage
Legendary Axe 1 and 2 (moreso 2)
Monster Lair (aka Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair)
New Adventure Island
Pac-Land
Parasol Stars
Prince of Persia
Shape Shifter
Tiger Road
Valis 1 through 4
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys
Looking at these lists, I have to say, Genesis definitely had the best selection of platformers.

Hmmm, lemme look in my collection to see what I can recommend you:
Well the only one's I have that haven't been recommended already are:
Mystical Ninja: I'm not sure if this is considered more of an adventure game, but you know what? It rules!
Super Bonk: It gets kind of repetitive at some points, but if you like Bonk 3 then you'll probably like the SNES bonk at least a little bit.
Super Bonk 2 (import): I haven't played this one, but judging by gameplay footage it plays more like Bonks Revenge than Bonk 3.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Might wanna give Gargoyles Quest: Demon's Crest for the SNES a try. It's a really fantastic game, I think.

Mario World and Mario All-Stars are obvious must-haves, although personally I do prefer the NES versions of the classic Super Mario Bros. games. (I blame the pretty lame SNES sound chip for that.)

As a youth I enjoyed SNES platformers. But be forewarned, I find enjoyment in games like Stargate and asphyxiation.
SNES:
Batman Returns
Batman Revenge of the Joker
Alien Vs. Predator
Ninja Gaiden
Battletoads Battlemaniacs
Duck Dodgers
Robocop Vs. Terminator (completely different from Genesis version)
Stargate (well... I liked it!)
Turtles in Time
Toy Story
Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse
Robocop 3 (it's good damn it! you just have to get into it)

Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse
I really enjoyed Circus Mystery on Genesis, and I loved reading the reviews for Magical Quest (which came out at the same month as World of Illusion here in Europe), so this is definitely on my list of games to play.
Off the top of my head, these are not platformers.
SNES:
Batman Returns
Alien Vs. Predator
Battletoads Battlemaniacs
Mystical Ninja
Turtles in Time
If you can handle frustration, you could try the Super Star War series - Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi.
As mentioned already, there is the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, with slightly updated graphics.
Or one of my favorites, the Earthworm Jim series.
Oh yeah, there's also Kirby Super Star, and Kirby's Dreamland 3.

I think the OP was looking exclusively for SNES and PCE exclusives?
Anyway I am fond of the following SNES (pseudo)platformers.. I'm sure there's more.

"Mizubaku Adventure" a.k.a. Liquid kids por the PC Engine is a great game that you should try if you are looking for action platformers, "Jackie Chan's action Kung Fu" is also great, both for the Hu-card format, too bad that these 2 games tend to be a bit expensive nowadays.
pc engine
legendary axe
eutopia 1 and 2 nice rpg s

Front Mission: Gun Hazard - Great game if you're into mechas and Contra style games. It lets you pick your own path and upgrade your mech and even the pilot, which can climb out and move around on his own.
Hamelin no Violin - Similar to Wonder Boy in a way, but more puzzle oriented and linear.

Ohhh god. I LOVE Demon's Crest so much! It's my absolute favorite SNES game. I passed up Super Metroid years ago to buy this gem instead. I give this one a very high personal recommendation!
