Yes, The VF series has turned into the underdog but is extreamly popular with fighting fans. Although casual fighters skip this game for tekken.

VF is a tricky game to play serious check out this link http://virtuafighter.com/ if you want to look deeper

Tekken is a pile of shit compared to Virtua Fighter, the only game in the Virtua Fighter series I don't like is Virtua Fighter 2 on the Genesis which pales in comparison to its Arcade & Saturn counterparts.

VF is a great series, I have VF1 on 32x and VF2 on genesis and VF5 on Xbox 360. I need to hunt down 2 on saturn, 3 on DC and 4 on PS2. but the games are great imo.

It's easily the best fighting game ever made(VF4 Evo/5),it's so engrossing.I even think that with more appealing aesthetics, that people still wouldn't play it.I really wish it was more popular in the States.

Although I may not be the best, gameplaywise, I still believe it is one of the best fighting series. I enjoy its mix of combos and accurately portrayed moves. I've always said the same about the MK series. Somehow, I've always felt that the VF series strove to become the next MK series, imo. I still love both. Tekken is awesome, yes, but something about the moves in all the VFs simply appeals to me all the much more.

...I've also made a little comparisson in my mind since day one of each series, and I thought I'd share this with you.

Killer Instinct is to Mortal Kombat as what Tekken is to Virtua Fighter.

Virtua Figher FTW!!!! ;)

[EDIT] It was such a treat when Ryo Hazuki kicked-up those Virtua Fighter moves. It's probably one of the best reasons why I love Shenmue soooooo much!

So.... Also, Shenmue FTW!!! ... and...Yu Suzuki FTW!!!

!!!

Tekken is yet another Namco ripoff of a Sega property. Sega releases Virtua Cop and Namco follows with Time Crisis. I've never been a fan of Tekken.

Tekken 3 is the best of that series, 1 & 2 were crap. (I don't care about the newer ones, but at the time 3 was the best thing going)

Virtua Fighter's best was VF4:Evolution.

Tekken 3 is ok, but still pales in comparison to the Virtua Fighter Games w/ the Exception of Virtua Fighter 2 on the Genesis which just sucks.

Virtua Fighter-Tekken
Virtua Cop-Time Crisis
Daytona-Ridge Racer
Sega Rally-Rave Racer
Last Bronx-Soul Edge
Virtua Striker-Libero Grande

And theres loads more but my mind is in lock. SEGA may have been the underdog in home consoles (in some peoples eyes) but there arcade devision was a different story. No one could touch them. And nearly all companies Namco/Capcom and more used SEGA hardware at some point

SEGA is/was what Namco wanted to be

I'm kinda surprised no one has even brought up the Dead or Alive series yet, which was first made using the Sega model 2 board. I prefer the DoA series waaay over the Tekken series.

I remember seeing this in SEGAworld london, The machine had the SEGA logos all over it, But it was by TECMO obviously but it was so similar to VF2

VF is the undisputed king of fighting games. But it requires a lot of dedication to even scratch the surface. I used to ace the AI and human players just fine but when Evolution came up with AI based on real players it drove me crazy.

VF2 was one of the main reasons why I opted for a PS2 over XBox, but I used to hope Sega would release their later Dreamcast projects on PS2 too since the XBox wasn't the proper platform for them.

The only VF I never had was VF3tb. What were impressions regarding the (rushed?) Dreamcast conversion?

Rush port, or not, VF3 was the ugly stepchild in the Virtua Fighter franchise.
