Apparently the whole Sega Retro thing was done because of all of the Sonic 4 whining on the Sonic Retro forums. Here it is explained by SR's admin/webmaster:


Sonic 4 is tearing us apart, guys, and I'm not gonna stand for it anymore.

Therefore, this site is getting some goddamn chemotherapy to get the faggotry caused by this game. And it starts with removing Sonic.

I didn't want to do this. I honestly didn't. We've built ten years on this foundation of all being Sonic fans together working towards a great goal of awesome. But this isn't awesome anymore. It's just fuckbeans. In fact, this fucks up a lot of plans we had to even make something funny for April Fool's. So thanks a lot, fuckfaces.

As a result of this removal, we have set up a parallel site called segaretro.org. It's essentially Sonic Retro without the Sonic. Given this abrupt transition, we will rolling it out over the next day to help ensure the transition.

We have removed the General Sonic Discussion forum in hopes of grabbing the few threads left worth saving and throwing them into the archive. Beyond that, it's gone.

For those of you who follow our Twitter, we encourage you to sign up for the Sega Retro Twitter. We will retweet all tweets to @sonicretro tomorrow, but can't promise anything beyond that.

So true. What started as a revival of old-school, awesome Sonic, turned into a shitstorm of epic whining of hardcore Sonic fans (or, as Scarred Sun put it, fucktards) for stupid minor little details, like the color of his EYES. HIS FUCKING EYES. The hardcore Sonic fanbase is a bunch of morons

It seems a bit overkill to purge Sonic entirely, especially from what was a sonic-oriented forum... Unless I'm misunderstanding the context of "no more sonic."

I'd probably be whining like some of the guys in those forums if I was a hardcore fan... well much more eloquently, but probably still construed as whining. I mean, I've made a fair amount of complaints/arguments on our Sonic 4 article, but overall I'm just taking a "wait and see" attitude. Again, not being any kind of hardcore fan tempers the issue.

I'd be pissed if say: Lucas Arts (or a licensee) came out with a new edition to the X-Wing franchise only to discover it was heavily motion control based on the Wii, or i-phone, or some equal bastardization...
In fact, Star Fox falls into that category too, if they managed to screw up a Wii game as much (or more!) than Command, I'll be pissed! (especially if the overall games is as tempting and so close to being really cool as Command was...)
