weird thing about Sonic & Knucles

yesterday i bought this boxed PAL Sonic&knuckles for 16€

when i bought this game when i was little, i had these same cartridge and instruction book (sadly both box and book were lost..)

but, on the web i found this pic of a slightly different version:

look at the sticker on the cartridge and the layout of the instruction book. Both pal, both blue label, but different cart and book?!

Could one be Australian PAL and one European?

Sonic & Knuckles never had a sticker on the label - and my UK instruction book is laid out like the first image, unlike most PAL instruction books which are landscape like the second image.
