Sega just decided to close almost 50% of its GameWorks locations (that's 7 out of 15, in case you were wondering;))
Click HERE (http://www.vendingtimes.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=EB79A487112B48A296B38C81345C8C7F&nm=Vending+Features&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=23BA377B4E3D41BCA56D388C5774F47E) for the news article.
I had my fair share of fun in the Miami location for almost 10 years. It was the closest to a SEGA theme park I ever had. Oh well, I guess we had to take one for the team. At any rate, I sure hope this move is one that re-allocates funds towards, say, the production of SEGA's NEXT CONSOLE...
...Man, am I an optimist or what? Sometimes I scare myself.

When my Sega Sammy (SGAMY) stock completely tanks I'll let you know.

Hasn't it already bottomed out in value?

Terrible news, I enjoyed the one I visited in Dallas.
They won't build shit like that here. I live in a state where most people don't know what "Sega" is.
Now mullets on the other hand...

I've had a Gameworks play card for almost 4 years. I'd bought the card when they had "buy $20 in credits, get another $20 in credit free."
I've been using those same credits since I've bought that card. Hell, it may be older than 4 years, but I still have 200 credits on it.

Come to think of it, I think I still have a card in my wallet with a few credits on it.
I'll have to make my way to Grapevine Mills when i'm out there this summer.

Thankfully the one in Chicago is safe (for now). I rather enjoyed myself when I was there.

I was at the one in Chicago recently when my Fiancees younger brother graduated from Navy Boot Camp and it was TOTALLY AWESOME

Wow, the one in Seattle is staying open. I'm assuming it's because their sports bar does well, and Gameworks does brisk business during PAX.

I could swear I have been to the one in Chicago when I use to live in Missouri. I really can't remember though. It must have been back in the 90's or something. I dunno, maybe I'm thinking of Dave and Buster's?

Did you play After Burner Climax & the big multi-car Outrun?
If you did, you experienced heaven.
Did you also go to the Lego Store?

What's GameWorks? I've never heard of it. Is it an arcade?

Its pretty much a big arcade & restaurant that has (mostly) Sega arcade games.

I'm planning on it. I think I have to get a passport now to cross the border though. There's some kind of new rules.

Yeah, you need a passport now. I brought it with me last time I came up to Vancouver and sure enough, they checked for it at the usually lax-customs. Homeland Security got paranoid about terrorists crossing between the U.S. / Canada border.

Never heard of these places! WOW! I've totally missed out. There is still one in Ft. Lauderdale.. That's not far from Miami! Next time I visit the mother-in-law in West Palm... The boys and I are taking a little guy trip to Gameworks! I guess it's kinda like a Dave & Busters?? Chuck-E-Cheese for Adults?!

they closed the usually busy columbus location as well. i would guess its a rent issue. commercial real estate owners are responding to the depression by raising rents... you can guess what happens to businesses when that happens

Then Jesse, you have been where the gods frolic.
That Lego store was awesome, but then I was just happy there was a Lego people scale model of parts of Chicago. The gf & I also got our picture taken with Lego-bama.
Schamburg was a blast.

its true it is indeed a awesome place :ok: I'm definitely going there again when its time for my younger cousins graduate from Navy Boot Camp. I was going to enter the Navy but I couldn't pass the Physical because I have Scoliosis, so instead I work as a Farrier.

I demand to see that
Also, I'd SO want to go to a Gameworks or something like that (if, for some reason, there's one in Argentina), so that I can play After Burner Climax, House of the Dead 4 and Initial D Arcade Stage 4! (if they have it, that is)

I went to GameWorks for two reasons: free Initial D and free Maximum Tune on $10 Thursdays.
Those two games are no longer free play because of the card dispensing system.
So screw GameWorks.
Though the one in Seattle is amazing. They have a Pop'n Music and a fricking Taiko No Tatsujin. Good luck finding that anywhere else in the country.

To play "After Burner Climax" in the arcade, is the physical manifestation of jawusum.
Running around Gameworks, I honestly felt like a 10yr old in an arcade again. :D
