Did the Mega CD ever get a release of Lunar? Or were review copies based on the US release?
There are a few games I've never seen European releases of and would like to try and pinpoint which never made it here to the UK

Nope, it never got Lunar. I don't think Working Designs ever considered the Euro market very seriously. However, Dragon Force and Sega Ages for the Saturn in europe where published by Sega of Europe.

Flashback just reeks of Europe-ness.

Why because it was half decent? :p
I've seen the Pal listing site and that seems to everything me and my friend have got....just wondered if that was just a list based on what had been picked up on ebay

Thats a complete list unlessthere is someultra rare prototype or beta never released.
From what I know the list is based on years of Ebay monitoring, old gaming mag release lists and officialin formation whenever available.

Flashback and its sort-of-sequel Another World were both released in Europe for the Mega Drive. Flashback for the Mega-CD only got as far as a magazine demo before it was canned.
Flashback just reeks of Europe-ness.
Explain yourself, mister.

Another World came before Flashback, silly.
Was Heart of the Alien released in Europe?

PAL Mega CD library is a shame compared to the other markets. It's nothing like the Mega Drive one.
And it's a pity having to look for American copies of both Lunar games, Popful Mail and Dark Wizard if you want these games in English. Not just because of non-fitness with a PAL collection with totally different cases, it's also because Mega CD it's more region-protected than the standard Mega Drive (and some NTSC games turn into a mess and desync when you convert them manually to PAL format with scdconvert).
And yes, nor even European games like Heart of the Alien or Flashback (for Mega CD) were released in Europe, but you know, those were in fact Interplay's distribution decissions.

I always wondered what the guys at Sega Europe were smoking when they decided wich games to release.
Why they did not bring the Lunar Games etc is a real mystery: CDs were cheap to produce, they never cared to translate the text of any RPG anyway ( not even for the Genesis) and since RPGs have always been a rare sight here (even more than in the USA), the Mega CDīs vast RPG-library might have been a system-seller. At least we got Shining Force CD...
But hell, what am I complaining about? At least we had lots of 64-colours-fmv-games as well as slightly improved versions of Mega Drive games that had already been available for quite a while. The biggest hit here was Core Designīs Thunderhawk, but 90 % of the CD software got low ratings in all the magazines...and they deserved it!
Even for the succesfull Mega Drive Sega made a lot of rather strange decisions regarding releases, but of course not as many as for their CD-toaster.
For the 32X Sega Europe had an even easier job: They didnīt have to look for bad software fit for Europe long...there was not much good stuff elsewhere anyway.

You hear a lot about SOA and SOJ, but I don't think I've ever once read an article about SOE... Were they not independent or something? Why is there so little documentation on SOE, even when Europe was such a good market for the Mega Drive?
I don't even know who was in charge over there.

well if you read the Interview with Tom Kalinske he was in charge of both sega of US and sega of Europe at the time the sega cd was out in the US and Europe ;)
Nakayama turned and said “but we hired you to make all the decisions for the United States and Europe, and so, that's what we want you to do
