View Full Version : NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Appearing on several platforms, NBA Jam Tournament Edition was a big sequel to one of Acclaim's greatest franchises. The Genesis version was a fan favorite, and our complete write up (http://www.sega-16.com/2006/04/nba-jam-tournament-edition-2/) tells why. Pump up those Reeboks and check your flat top, because it's game time!

I have the 32X version. Is it any better/different other than the amazing arcade player scaling?

Stockton2Malone forever, bitch! Made the perfect inside/outside, yin/yang team.
I was so spoiled by the arcade version -- more specifically, the test version that somehow found its way into the public venue of a bowling alley -- with its crazy codes that the home versions were disappointing.
Also, if I remember, they took some of the better lines out in TE -- no more "nail in the coffin" or "Is it the shoes?"

Yeah, it was really cool how the announcer sounded like he was drowning in all 16-bit releases. :p
I thought of the holy trinity of arcade franchises (MK, SF, JAM) that this series came out worst in its initial home translations insofar as cosmetic presentation.
Actually, there never has been a pefect translation of Jam. :(

...is NBA2K3. Aside from the pathetic end of game shot clock management of the opposing A.I. Evidently the devs never heard of a quick hitter.

The 32X version was the best translation of the game in my opinion. The funnest and most playable.

The 32X version kills all others.

Iguana Entertainment...what else have they done? It sounds pretty familiar...

The Atari Jaguar port gets my most excited salutations, but one can't go wrong with any NBA Jam.

For Genesis, they fondled the likes of Aero the Acrobat, Batman Forever, and Zero the Kamikazee Squirrel. Their more well-known games for other consoles include Shadow Man and the Turok franchise.

Oh yeah, Turok! That must be where I remember the logo from.
Alright, fine, I'll admit, I played Aero the Acrobat and Batman Forever. If that ever leaves this thread, someone will get Lasorda'd.

Iguana's Genesis contribution carried a slight VeryTex stank, I will admit...

I remember playing the SNES version back in the day. In fact, I was good enough at the game that my older brother eventually stopped playing against me. While some people would consider my tactics cheap (as did my brother), I stand behind them, as they're completely legitimate. Obviously, the best thing to do is get on fire. Against a skilled player, that isn't easy.
However, I was damn good at this game, and I'd typically get on fire quite easily against my older brother. Then, rather than have a runaway game, I'd simply run around with the ball to kill time. When the shot clock was getting low, I'd do a full-court shot. Whether or not it went in, I didn't care. I'd use my fire to quickly level my brother's players, sometimes not even picking up the ball; I just kept on shoving his players around the court.
Hahahaha…memories…
I don't know which was more amusing to play against my older brother: NBA Jam T.E. or Super Mario Kart (especially when I could evade red shells in the open most of the time simply by jumping and whatnot).

The heads are bigger. There's a little bit more detail and the overall visual clarity is a bit better. That's about it. The audio is roughly the same.

What's the difference? Turok was just as big a pile of shit as anything else they produced.

I'm not a fan of the Turok series either but it does have a cult audience where as the rest of their games have been reduced to obscure referances.

Iguana also did the best football game on the system - NFL Quarterback Club '96. Now there's a game that makes owning a Madden installment about as vital as a hand warmer in the Sahara.

Quarterback Club?? Really? I've never really paid attention to (American) football videogames, but I was under the impression that the Quarterback Club series was mostly disliked.

I remember it being really hated, esp. on the Dreamcast. Hmm...

Well, who in their right mind would like NFL QBC on Dreamcast when it has the 2K games?
Oh god no, the QBC games on the Dreamcast were complete train wrecks. NFL was all you needed.

Nice game...used to play the arcade all the time, but I always hated that, cause the guides were at home with the cheat codes....

Nothing like putting in the dunk code and executing a 9-point slam from the opposite baseline. Oh, yeah...

I've heard of the full-dunk code, but I have no idea how to pull it off. Do you put in the code during gameplay or at the "Tonight's Matchup" screen?
As for this, NBA Jam T.E for Genesis is pretty much the same as NBA Jam on Genesis. Skip this one and go for the much more arcade-like one on Sega Saturn.
Nothing trumps NBA Jam T.E in the arcades though.

I had it written down in my old code book from back in the day, but since I don't have that with me at the moment, I gonna guess you enter:
LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, B, A at the Matchup Screen, according to this internet source (http://cheats.ign.com/ob2/068/006/006289.html)
A text message sound confirm the code at the tip-off.
