View Full Version : I mastered Ninja Gaiden!

Yep, the original NES cartridge version, which according to the AVGN is "$#@%# impossible." I take those type of statements as a challenge of manhood. I can now add Ninja Gaiden to my list of conquered "impossible" games, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES), Batman (NES), and Contra Hard Corps (beaten a couple endings but have not yet "mastered" by any means). Hopefully I'll beat NES Contra without the 30 lives code one day.
Seriously, I can tell you how to get past any section of Ninja Gaiden: Area 6-2, Jaquio, the screwy jumps, etc.
So...
Anybody need some advice while the patterns are still fresh on my mind?

Yeah, the Nerd seems to exaggerate just for dramatic effect and to stay in character as a ticked off gamer.
Now go beat Dick Tracy.
Hmm... I think I might be in trouble there! Doh! I've never even seen a copy in the wild but I'll keep my eyes open.
Sometimes it's hard to judge the difficulty on a game that's poorly made vs. a game that is made to be frustrating. I have beaten Who Framed Roger Rabbit though and that game is pretty ridiculous in its final boss battle. Man, it is so cheap and mind numbingly dull at times.
I beat Superman for Genesis, which was pretty tough but short. I don't know if I want to tortue myself trying the mess around with the near unplayable NES version.

Very interesting... how about parts 2 & 3? Are those as "hard" as 1?
And when you say "mastered", do you mean you beat it with 1 life or using no continues?

They added a timer for the North American version of Ninja Gaiden 3 so it is harder than the Japanese version (oddly).
Come back once you beat Magician.

Lol, I 'just' acquired all 3 of them a couple weeks ago and haven't started any of them... I'm too busy collecting PS2/Wii games atm... haven't even had time to play anything in a week.
Definitely though, I'm assuming this is a Boss for NG 3?

Oh no, Magician is an infamous 'unbeatable' NES game. There was only ever one person to send in a final screen for it for NES Achievers.
AdamL, a guy from the NES scene who beat every game with a Game Genie said it was still one of the hardest games he ever played. Otherwise a dude named Vararesande claimed to have beat it and Brian Sulpher also finished it I believe. That's how hard the game is, I can remember the names of people who claim to have done it and they are fewer than the fingers on my hand.

Well, I guess I still have some work to do if that is the standard definition of the term. What I meant was that I can run through it in about an hour without getting stuck on any particular section. I know all the right moves that will get me through without taking extensive damage and repeated deaths but I've only beaten it twice last week. When I lose lives, it is usually out of carelessness rather than frustration. And it is difficult to beat it on one continue since it is so hard to stockpile extra lives in this game.
Hopefully, the more I play through it, I'll be able to finish it without using a continue. That's the skill level that I'm at on NES TMNT but I think I can get there on Ninja Gaiden (or at least close to it).

Wow, that's insane. I'll never be that hardcore that's for sure, lol.

Ahhh, gotcha... sounds like you're getting it down pretty well. I'm happy when I can simply complete a game: you guys are a lil crazy in regard to wanting to beat games without using continues/etc. ;):p
Whatever floats your boat:cool:

As long as We're on the subject of near-impossible games, try: "Street Fighter 2010" for the NES. It's probably been over six years since I last attempted that one (And failed). even with a game genie that game's a pain in the ass.
Contra: hard corps isn't that bad if You play as Browny. The little guy's so short most of the enemy's fire goes right over His head, and He has a double-jump.
Oh and congrats to oldmanwinters. The last time I tried to beat Ninja Gaiden, I ended up getting the crap whipped out of Me at the top of some Aztec-looking temple until I got pissed and threw the controller at the floor. :(

I started a facebook group dedicated to honoring gamers who beat "impossible" games or have attained a nearly unattainable achievement. If anyone feels like you're worthy, please take the chance to pat yourself on the back by joining up and sharing your triumph!

There are lots of technically difficult NES games and quite a few that are difficult because of the controls. Like Kabuki Quantum Fighter is technical skill but Rocky an Bullwinkle is... well... bullshit.
Adventure Island is a good one too! Very tough, almost impossible to no-death. I have never heard of anyone doing it, even without a continue.
Compare that to the kid in Japan back in the day who knew the patterns to Ninja Gaiden so well he beat it with a blindfold. I think it was covered in Famitsu... dunno which issue anymore... anyways, Adventure Island is tough, tough, tough!
Also, Holy Diver. If you emulate give it a try... it will devour your soul.

Gonna have to check that story out! I was wondering if a blindfold run was possible but I guess this answers my question!

It's really tough because due to some glitches the occasional enemy doesn't show up and it can ruin the whole run. But possible, you just need to have a lot going for you and have the skill to boot.

I'm surprised somebody hasn't said: "I mastered your mom".
Other than that, good job man. I always end up pausing Ninja Gaiden when I get to the harder levels so I can take a break. Then I just get disenchanted and think "maybe next time....". Does that ever happen to anybody else with games?

Anyone? Or were you looking for Somebody?:p
I really didn't feel like the game was that hard all things considered. I've had more trouble with Tom & Jerry for NES. That game gets pretty difficult late in the game. I've beaten it once but not sure how easily I could do it again.
