Not sure but I'd imagine it would have some sort of effect on the cases/inserts if the smoke was close enough. I wouldn't think it would damage the games themselves, you may just have to air them out or something. I've never known a disk to absorb that smoke smell like an SNES/Genesis cart.

I'm sorry to hear about that.
Assuming the stuff didn't actually get exposed to much heat, the worst damage is probably appearance. One of the local game stores around here had a fire and I ended up with some of the affected merchandise. After a good cleaning (contacts, disc surface, laser lenses, etc.), it all worked fine but looked terrible.

Just word to Mouth from my Sister in Law...but I don't think the Mom & Dad cares about the Wii or the PS2 right now, just lucky it wasn't worst
Thanks for the info guys

Gee, my remark about good insurance seems prophetic in hindsight.

Smoke is one of electronic's worst enemies. People who smoke will notice that their electronics will die much sooner that real people's electronics. A fire like you said could cause minimal damage if not a lot burned, especially on a different floor. However if a lot of wood did burn, then the smoke is heavier and could damage electronics instantly. It just all depends on the severity of the fire and what burned.
the smoke particles can become conductive and cause all sorts of problems

Really????
so Smokers don't count as real people in your eyes?

I saw that too!
As a un-real person, I smoke outside to avoid damage/odors to my collection and house.
Do you find as an unreal person its rather hard to play games since your uber busy damaging yours and other peoples equipment..
funking smokers ;) hehehe
