View Full Version : Painted my Genesis

I paint/run an Autobody shop... I had some left over paint from a Lexus... the paint is what we call a tri-color, or three stage... It has a base white, a pearl top coat, and then we clear coat the paint.
I scuffed the genesis, applied plastic primer, used a sealer, paint then clear coat... It has the same appearance that a painted plastic part on a car would have, also has the durability and shine of a car. :)

I just have to put the buttons in :)

Looks like you've applied it too thick.

Sorry man im not a fan of it :( perhaps the pictures don't do it justice.

I would have filled in the text/triangle near the cart slot.

But otherwise it looks pretty sweet.

I plan on Airbrushing SEGA there, and GENESIS across the top.

The top picture is the only picture that does any justice, the bottom three are all flash glare and bad lighting. It is not thich in anyway though. I really should have waited till later lol, I dunno I was just excited.

Looks cool, but I think it would look better in a color like red or gold rather than off-whitish.

hehee I think the pictures just give it a "bulge" you can tell your good with the spray gun, nice and even no pits or scuffs etc. must just be the pictures.

I think you probably need a colour to accent it, like a dark green in the oval around the cart slot or just something to give it a little change??

OHOHOHOH

AND A GREEN LED!! that would loook the nuts

Now you just need to paint a picture of Rául Juliá on the side with the quote "anyone who opposes me will be destoryed" and you will have the ulitmate Mega Drive :)

I'm not that keen on the color but otherwise its great. It'd be cool to see it with texts too

I love the idea & it turned out very nice, you did a great job! Just wish it was a different color. I saw a darker blue Genny 2 with metal flake in it that looked really sharp.

Your's is sharp and I am looking forward to seeing the pics once it's completed.

TecToy made a MD3 with built-in games thats looks just like that, but has a blue TecToy marking over it.BTW, it has no cart slot.

I have some Arctic white III left over from repainting my bimmers bumper. I should probably try something like this with one of my genesis.

Welcome aboard dude!..Literally, it does have a cartridge slot, only that is covered by a plastic piece that has the Tectoy logo on it (comes off) :sonic: , but no cart connector available, only emulation like a cel phone

I think so. Why can't they use ACTUAL hardware instead of using that Genesis-on-a-chip thingy?

They did at one point, but later went very cheapo........

That is not a Genesis on a chip but one of those god damn Titan/Firecores.

Very slick looking, indeed. Now it just needs a copy of Outrun in the cart slot. :)

Sweet job, reminds me of a stormtrooper for some odd reason.

Hmm, a white Genesis 2 with black buttons and cart slot (perhaps retaining some black trim)... That would look really like a Storm Trooper, and probably pretty awesome. ;)

So is it emulation like the firecore, or an ASIC like earlier TecToy units and most current clones.

Nothing wrong with Genesis on a Chip. Sega did that for the VA4 model 2 (among the best sounding/looking model 2) as well for the Genesis 3.

The clones with ASICs generally have bad sound due to poor external amps/mixing circuitry, as with the bad sound on real Sega consoles and TecToy units. (unlike the firecore, which just has crappy sound emulation)

In theory, one could mod such clones to have good sound and probably RGB video. (unless those pins are gone and a composite video encoder is embedded in the ASIC)

Great stuff! I have a model 2 that I put in a blue LED into, I was thinking of doing it white. I think this just convinced me to. Only thing I'm not sure of is whether to keep the SEGA logo panel black so the label is preserved...

That is one sexy Genesis, keep up the good work! Maybe you should make a Ferrari Red one next and play Outrun all day on it.

Send me your Genesis I'll paint it Ferrari red ^^, BTW I taped off the label in the back, not to cover the label. I taped around it with fine line tape, so that way there wasn't an edge either.

The Model 2 and 3 used Genesis on a chip? Wow, didn't know that...

Later MD2s were near single chip setups. Earlier ones were much less integrated.

The main separate components is the 68k and VDP RAM, right? (most other stuff is analog circuitry, power regulation, video encoder, etc)
The Genesis 3 replaced the 68k and VDP RAM with SDRAM didn't it?

Do the later clone ASICs actually include the 128 kB of RAM for 68k/VDP too? (not separate chips)
