Inspired by the GT conversation in the Xbox OutRun 2006 thread, and the fact that I just played some GT2 today, I decided to do this poll
My vote goes to Gran Turismo 2. Very good handling and gameplay (unlike some OTHER Gran Turismo game *cough*Gran Turismo 4*cough*), nice graphics and awesome music (My Favorite Game? Oh yes)

I have to agree with GT2, especially once you enhance it with Bleemcast.

GT4 is my second favorite though, and I have no issues with the way the cars handle. I look at GT4 as the evolution to what Polyphony Digital was trying to create with the first title: a realistic driving experience. Most people are probably turned of by F355, since it behaves more like the real car, than an arcade version of it.

It's a shame I have to rank GT3 as the 3rd title, since it was such a stunning game at the time. I just felt like it was a rushed title, after playing GT2 months before I'd play 3.

Have you played any of Prologue, M4R14N094?

The only one I have any real experience with is part 1... played a couple hours of it on a friends PS1 over a decade ago... and thought it was amazing.

I recently picked up 3 & 4 for my PS2. I just tested 3 last night (cuz it was a used purchase from Gamestop, like $4 in great shape) and thought it was amazing.

4 was $20 sealed at Frys... and it looks like it's gonna be the bees knees.

I figure I'll have more than enough cars/tracks/gameplay between 3 & 4 to last me forever.

Is there anything really special about 2, guys?

GT2 had the cars. GT3 A-Spec had the graphics.

After that I didn't care.

I played a tremendous amount of GT2. I loved that game.

I played GT3 for about an hour, then realized that except for crisper graphics, it was really the same experience, one that felt extremely stale the second time through. Same with GT4--been there, done that. Although driving a Buick GNX was fun... but, again, only for about an hour.

Gran Turismo 4: Prologue or Gran Turismo 5: Prologue? Because I never played those two. GT4 Prologue because I have GT4 and GT5 Prologue because I don't own a PS3, and none of my friends, cousins, relatives or anyone that I know has one. Apart from those two games, I have yet to play GT3 (and the GT Concept games)

I don't remember a GT4: Prologue, but I do remember a concept.

GT2. It was based completely off of hype. Gran Turismo was a huge deal and the anticipation for GT2 was bigger than most games today. Even like Final Fantasy XIII, nobody has the buzz like GT2.

The original was a very impressive game and I still prefer its graphics to GT2, but GT2 is the champ for PSX no doubt. GT2 also wins in the most accessible category because of it's very optimized D-pad control that makes it great for people emulating it on a computer or PSP.

However, there is no beating GT3 for realism. If you turn off all of the driver assists, GT3 is dead on to reality. GT4 screwed that all up by making the joystick tell the driver to turn the wheel rather than having instantaneous response. When I play GT4, I feel like I'm calling out "turn left!" to the guy on screen rather than playing myself. Even with the Driving Force Pro wheel, GT4 feels too disconnected. Also, GT4 totally screwed the pooch with dynamic friction. Drifting is almost impossible with GT4 vs. AWESOME with GT3. GT3 is the driver's game, GT2 is the pokécar and casual player's game.

Hopefully GT5 will offer the control of GT3 with the cars of GT4 (except better, I really didn't like most of the lineup in GT4 to be honest) to make for one totally badass experience.

GT3 is $1.99 at just about every used game store on the planet. I mean...really?

For me it's a toss up between GT2 and GT4. GT2 was definitely the best on the PS1 and it had way more cars than GT3. I think GT3 was rushed to get out a next gen GT game on the PS2 as soon as possible. But GT4 added a lot of new features and of course the best graphics. I loved the photo mode in GT4 but I can see how some people wouldn't care about that.

Uh... I highly doubt it that it's like that in Argentina. It probably will have higher prices (unless we're talking about pirated copies). Hell, there aren't even any kind of shops specialized in used games here!

I voted for GT 3. I bought it right when it came out and played the crap out of it. I had GT 2 and definitely liked it as well.

Sometime in early '98, my friend gave me a burned copy of what he said was a really good racing game out of Japan. I didn't have a modded system, so I took it over to a friend's house and we played it awhile. He went on and on about how bad the game was and how it was going to be a total flop if they released it here. The game of course was Gran Turismo.

I have 3 and 4, I'm pretty sure they sold me the same exact game with a different cover on it.

2 I would still be playing it today if my friend had deleted my 90% complete save file:mad: after that I didn't have the heart to ever play it again

Well how about you say you live in Argentina in your info under your name! You should know better than to use the internet and not be from America!

Alot of people got turned off by the licensing tests (which were OBSCENE on the original GT) and never got to the real game. If you copped out and played the arcade mode instead, it just played like a mediocre racing game. Also, I don't think realism was highly regarded at the time because technology wasn't quite good enough to pull it off prior to Gran Turismo.

Oh, I know, I'm terrified of my GT3 save getting deleted. I worked on that damn game for a whole summer, even running this boring ass oval track race over and over again to unlock the F1 car. LOL, I remember playing it on the picture in picture and remapped the accelerator to the shoulder button and put a piece of tape on it. The Escudo still does about 200mph when dragging along the wall.

As an aside, does anyone know of a sub-$25 method to backup save files without using weird proprietary formats?

Oldschool,

Polyphony Digital also made a motorcycle game called Tourist Trophy. It's the only other game that supports 1080i (GT4 being the other) on the PS2.

This track looks just as good as it does on Forza 2. It's a testament to how good Polyphony Digital is at squeezing every ounce of power out of the PS2.
