anyone remember anything about that old game show on nick around 93-95 that was about video games? i remember one that had the contestants in an actual video game(via green/blue screen effects) at the end of the show. i also remember the teams of 2 competing for a high score on actual arcade cabs. i was thinking about this at work today and wondered if anyone here remembers the name of the show or has any youtube vids?

Nick Arcade, the best rerun on the short-lived Nick GaS network, one of the only shows to actually stay on for the entire run, 4 and 4:30 AM baby!
This show was always a blast to watch.

I loved "Nick Arcade", ever since I first caught it in re-runs during the mid-'90's (6AM every Saturday morning).
I remember, during my early Genesis-owning days, first tuning in to watch the show and seeing some of the games I owned (such as Sonic 1) being played on TV. I'd then go and replicate the "Video Challenges" myself on my console.
Let's not forget the infamous episodes with the Sonic 2 Alpha, with its uber-animated Sonic sprite, scrapped enemies and SLZ music on Emerald Hill Act 1.
The Neo-Geo was by far the most popular console to be picked on the "Video Challenge". More often than not, those goobers would choose to play "Ghost Pilots" and" King of the Monsters" (ESPECIALLY "King of the Monsters"). "Magician Lord" was also played numerous times (which is how I fell in love with its Level 1 BGM in the first place). There was a great variety of Genesis games from late 1990-mid-1992 featured on the program too.

I'll never forget the rerun I saw of "Nick Arcade" where this "nerdy" kid was laying waste to the opposing team, something like 500 points vs 50.
Had he been up there *by himself* he would have won the whole goddamn show, but his inept partner fucked up "in the game".
The best part was seeing the dude on the other team get his ass handed to him. He showed up on there looking stoned and sporting the biggest shit eating grin ever.
Nerds rule!

from the looks of the youtube video above it seems as if weve stumbled upon a good bit of forgotten 90's genesis paraphanelia.
i used to watch wild and crazy kids all the time.

Were there any games on that show that we'd know?

the 3 things i wanted to do most when i was 9 years old:
1: be "in" that game from the end of nick arcade(i thought it was an actual video game that you got inside, cant imagine the letdown of the contestants when they discovered that they would actualy be playing by looking at thier position on a tv monitor and running up and down a bunch of blue screen cloaked ladders)
2: have sex with catwoman from batman returns
3: go to wrestlemania X

Plenty. As I said earlier, Genesis games from late 1990-mid-1992 were featured on the show. Some noticeable ones were "Thunder Force III", the original Sonic, a couple of Renovation games such as "Vapor Trail", "Arcus Odyssey", "Dino Land", "El Viento", "Gaiares" (which was never played), "Sol-Feace"........they sure featured a lot of Renovation games. :?
Other games featured off the top of my head:
"Chuck Rock"
"Marvel Land"
"Greendog"
"Air Buster"
"Turrican"
Hell, here's some "Video Challenge' videos mate:

I'm pretty sure I read (and saw horribly pixelated pics) of an early version of "Sonic 2" being on Nick Arcade.
I remember this show. That "What the Hell is Wrong with.." video IS HILARIOUS.

Yup it's in 7:00 of that first vid. Starlight Zone for the music and it has a different enemy(not sure wtf it is, looks like a cross between that ladybug from GHZ and the purple thing in Spring Yard Zone.)

I've always preferred the beta Sonic sprite over the one in the final retail version. Anyone else agree? That's gotta be the most smoothly-animated Sonic sprite of all the 16-Bit games.

I like the Sonic 2 beta title screen more than the retail.

Yeah, I like it too. I really don't understand why they changed it

I used to get up at 6 am every weekday to see this. It would be cool if you got to see the games for more than 30 seconds.

And it was being played by Melissa Joan Hart no less!
Nick Arcade was awesome. I used to remember getting pissed at the contestants because they always SUCKED at the games.
