This was a great read! Some games got a much needed bashing, though I think the one on strider was a bit extreme.. As was the praising of CoI, which is just a nice sounding platformer with mediocre and slow gameplay.
Is it just me or are the screenshots even smaller now?

Strider does have shit controls.
But those controls were as important (impotent?) as its 8-mega POWER in making it arcade "exact".
For it to be a great translation of a classic arcade game it had to have those awful controls. People would have been throwing bitch fits in 1990 if it actually controlled well.
And that's what makes it so awesome. That's why it stands as one of the outstanding arcade ports of its time.

Forgive me, but my submission was Arrow Flash; I don't think I did Ringside Angel as well, despite what the page says. :p
No? Then who did RSA? See why y'all need to include your full names? :)
And the screen shots are smaller because the new format is smaller. 320 x 224 pics look absolutely massive.
*Edit. Never mind, I found it. I guess I confused Saad's entry with Damien's. Fixed!

Well then I just found a reason to use the zoom button on my laptop.

Cool cool. I liked Sonic CD though. And I noticed a lot of Sega CD playing this time around. *Gives everyone a cookie*

A good batch of brutal opinions this go around. Most excellent.
I was working on a submission for this exciting episode of Reader Roundtable but ended up getting carried away with the detail. As such, I decided it would be better off as a true blue review.

^ That's how my Shaq Fu review started.

My Sonic CD entry came from one too many people putting the game up on a pedestal. It just didn't feel like a Sonic game to me, there were too many screws loose and parts left unpolished. It was almost as if I was playing unfinished Sonic 2 Beta stages. I'm sure I would've liked it more if I had any nostalgic sentiment towards it.

I agree about Sonic CD. I enjoy both Sonic 1 and 2 much more. I really didn't like the time travelling aspect of the CD version, especially because it would interrupt gameplay as it stops to load the new level... usually right when I was getting into the music.

To Jacob Ayre:
THANK YOU! I didn't get why everyone put Contra 3: The Alien Wars on such a pedestal when Contra 4: Hard Corps. did the job so much better. not only that, but its way more replayable than any other Contra game out there. (at least, to me anyways)...most people complained about Contra 4 having too many boss battles...but I think all the bosses made it better, because for once, it really seemed like there was a true threat that you were trying to stop, and I'd rather have 5 white-knuckle moments in a game like that than just 1 at the end of the stage. I think Contra 5: Shattered Soldier (the PS1 entries don't count on account of them sucking hard) came close to replicating that...although I think more could've been done in that one...
...anyways...I agree with your contribution to the Reader Roundtable...props to you.
OH YEAH...to whoever wrote the Strider article...ain't it funny that Strider Hiryu's ending in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Super Heroes is the EXACT SAME ENDING as in Strider itself? Guess you can skip the slippery controls and play a better game to see how his "classic" ended...

Really? I didn't know that...
And yes, I was the one who wrote the blasphemous Strider review.

You should try the game Run Saber for SNES. It's a lot like Strider, but without the silly jumping.
Osman: Cannon Dancer is much, much better.

I didn't think it was blasphemous at all...but yeah...its true...I had beaten MVC1 with Strider at some point in the past...and his ending was like this
Strider: Mission Accomplished.
(Strider catches hang glider and leaves, and we then see him standing atop a whale...)
late last year, I decided to play through the Strider Rom on Kawaks to the very end...and after many many continues (last boss was a cheap one)...much to my dismay, the ending was EXACTLY like it was in MVC1...all I can say was that I'm glad I did that for free, rather than spending quarters/tokens on that crap...
