View Full Version : Which games would you still pay full price for?
Genesis Knight

This may seem like an odd question, since many of you played Genesis back in the day and did indeed pay full price (50-60, we'll say) for the games. I didn't, and as I play these games I ask myself 'would I really have paid that much for this'? 99% of the time the answer is no. It's not that I don't enjoy the games; it's just I don't think I get $50 worth of fun out of them.
There are a few games, though, that I would still pay full price for...
Beyond Oasis
Samurai Showdown
Landstalker
What about you all?

Revenge of Shinobi, with Batman! If I had a time machine then I would. Oh yeah...

Panorama Cotton ^^ (That would be cheaper than it costs now, you know). Otherwise it would be Phantasy Star IV, my all time favorite game.

I second Phantasy Star IV. Even though it cost $99.

I can get MUSHA for $8 locally, but I just don't care for it..
Shining Force, and Shining Force II

If I couldn't play them otherwise:
My entire collection except Sea Quest, Columns, Exo Squad, and World Series Baseball (I'd still play $15 for it).
In particular Gunstar Heroes, Sonic 2, Flashback, and Revenge of Shinobi.

You should at least pick it up to sell it then. Hell, you'd probably make 25 bucks if you did.

Yeah I sent him a PM saying I'd pay him for his troubles, I haven't been able to find that game yet... been so long since I've played.
Ghouls & Ghosts. Nuff said.

The MUSHA thing is just an empty boast, apparently. The sticker price is indeed $8, but they don't have any copies.

Ristar, Shining Force II, Beyond Oasis, Ecco 1&2, and of course Gunstar Heroes...besides, I could go for a Friut Roll-Up right now... or was it Fruit by the Foot?
Genesis Knight

Fruit Roll-Up, I think.

I made Electronics Boutique throw away the Fruit Roll Up that came with my Gunstar Heroes, and they were very hesitant to do so. Every time I tell someone that the game came with a Fruit Roll Up, they never believe me!

All the expensive Sega CD games (Keiko, Snatcher, Popful Mail, but not Lunar or shining force) when they first came out.

Now, come on - the purpose wasn't to say what rare and expensive games you'd get when they came out (and hock later), but which ones you LOVE enough to pay full price for again.

I wonder if the fruit roll up is considered rare and adds to the game's value? lol
I'd pay 50 bucks for Sonic 2, as it is a classic, maybe the best in the series

Gunstar Heroes is not considered complete unless it includes the (uneaten) Fruit Roll-Up.

I wouldn´t pay full price for any known Genesis game if they were new today. Beggar Prince cost me 40-some €, but it is a collector´s item and still less than full-price (full price for new MD-games was 60,- - 70,- € here).
They just don´t hold up well enough against new games imho. Maybe I´d still pay 20,- € for Landstalker if it was a new game with the same graphics and stuff.
However, I would buy newly programmed RPGs if they are really top-notch-16-Bit-style. Something in the same class as Lunar for example, which does a good job graphically and gameplay-wise.
Come to think of it, it would be cool to re-release Lunar itself on a cartridge. Take away the CD-sound and FMV and it wouldn´t be a problem.

M.U.S.H.A.
Thunderforce series

I would happily pay full price for a copy of Daze Before Christmas as its worth more now than when it was launched.

Sonic 1, 2, 3, + Knuckles, and CD
Knuckles Chaotix (I paid $30 for a complete one recently anyway)
Streets of Rage 2
Really, that's about all I go back to with any regularity. I have a stack of carts, just nothing I play enough to warrant buying at full pop.

Well, but 30,-$ is only about only half the price it originally cost.

Well, but 30,-$ is only about only half the price it originally cost.True, but if it came out now, and buying new was the only way to get it, and I wasn't under the impression it was total garbage like I was when it first came out, I'd buy it for $60.
Really? You'd buy them for the original price? I'll sell you my copies. :DHeh. Except I'm already sitting on copies (multiple in Sonic 1's case) copies. Then there's that whole "can get them used for dirt" thing ...

Of course, sports games, you can pick up mint for a few bucks. But if I could only buy it new, I would.

Probably Phantasy Star II... since it received it as a b-day gift way back in it's day. A month later it was stolen when my place was broken into, so naturally, I had to go out and get another one (and another Genesis). I'd easily pay another $69.99 (well, as long that incredible hint book came with it again). It's too bad games don't come bundled like that anymore... guess, there is too much money to be lost these days if they did).

Phantasy Star II,5 in 1 sega cd pack.
I only own the 5 in 1, but for a boxed still in wraping Phantasy Star II complete I would pay about $70.00 US.
Why did Gunstar Heroes come with a fruit roll-up? Why would a game come with a food?? I'm sorry, that just seems wrong to me.
Anyway, I paid full price for a few games 'back in the day', most notably the Sonics - Sonic CD cost me a good chunk of Xmas moneys one year, for example, and then there was Sonic & Knuckles around the launch. (Sonic 3 was a present :) )
I also bought Mega Drive games for my dad for his birthday / Xmas one year (Galaxy Force 2, & Wrestlemania) for about £20 each, and then recently spotted copies of those games in a charity shop recently for £1 each! If only time machine blah blah i'm a big fat miser :)
street of rage 2
ghostbusters
but i was then i was little and didn t had a lot of money so i always had to buy second handed

Well, I am also a collector of Neo-Geo AES games, so I am kind of "accustomed" to high prices. As you probably know, the prices for AES carts range from pretty high to insane. hehe... I would definately pay good money for a few of my fave Mega Drive games (such as Alien Soldier, Contra: Hard Corps, Sonic 1-3, VectorMan, etc) as well, but fortunately that is rarely needed.
I HAD A NEO GEO AES
DID GET IT FROM UNCLE RICH MAN
BUT WHEN I WANTED TO BUY A GAME FROM IT IT WAS LIKE 700 -800 GULDENS LIKE 350 EURO FOR A GAME IN 1990
ONLY HAD METAL SLUG AND SUPER BASEBALL 2020 AND FATAL FURY
BUT SOLD IT ALL NEVER BOUGHT A GAME FOR THAT EXPENSIVE MACHINE
ALWAYS GET A GAME FROM MY UNCLE
