I'm doing some reading on SNK Playmore and I wish I could find more Compilations of their Neo Geo games.
The Shooters and Beat 'em Ups released for Neo Geo blow my mind and I wish I could nab them all on my PS2.
I well understand I could build a PC and use Mame/etc and get access to all of this and just about everything else that ever came down the pike in the arcade arena but the more games I buy for my Consoles, the less I want to go that route (mainly because I've got too much to play as it is, lol).
When I see something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d14eRnkr5FM&feature=related
I shit bricks... thinking, "man, I really want that for my PS2".
I think I've grabbed all of them... Art of Fighting Anthology/Samurai Showdown A./the Metal Slug one... and more.
Does anyone here have any news on what the next step for these Comps is? Is SNK Playmore moving up to the 360/P3 for their future Comps you think?

There's also the SNK Classics Collection vol. 1, for the PS2 and Wii. If you can, spring for the Wii edition: it has NO slowdown (which the PS2 version has a bit of) and supports progressive scan. Seeing as they've named it "vol. 1", here's hoping for a "vol. 2".

They have some compilations on the Wii, as well as a few random games on Wii's VC and Xbox live arcade. I'm not sure of your budget but you may consider buying actual Neo hardware. The cheapest thing is to buy a Neo CD system, and if you don't mind a little piracy get a torrent with every game for the system. I have a binder with every game made for the thing. Or you can look into getting a consolized MVS system, the systems aren't that cheap but most MVS carts can be had for less than $50, with a lot of classics going for less than $20.

As gung ho about PCs as you are, I would expect an A/V output of some sort would be a high priority. X-Arcade+MAME+A/V out=BYAAAAH! Not only that, but hello Supercade.net!
You can torrent a complete MAME ROM set on bittorrent. The easiest route is to download the "6000+ MAME Plus" or whatever it's called. It's not the latest set, but it's all pre-configured and it can have the bezels and other stuff (included) put around the image for the ultimate experience. MAME FTW.

Thks... I've already got it for Wii. Yeah, I know... apparently Vol. 2 isn't "coming". :|

Yeah, I refuse to buy anything on Virtual Console as I prefer the real thing.
I'm not paying NeoGeo prices... I'd rather catch them on Comps/etc.
thks though

I know... 2 things though... if I can get a good number of these legitimately, I'd prefer to go that route. Secondly, I've got enough games as it is, so I'll be ok if there's only a limited # of comps.

Yeah, but many of the best games aren't out on compilation discs. Also, MAME is better emulation with zero load times (besides what would be on a ROM board normally). I have several SNK compilations, but I never play them on the actual disc, I always play it in MAME. It's not a matter of "having enough games" it's a matter of having the game you want to play when you want to play it. The reason I have complete NES/SNES/Genesis/32X/MAME/etc. sets isn't because I plan to play every game ever made for every system, holy fuck no, it's just that if I hear about a game and want to try it I don't have to go search for an individual ROM but rather just boot up the emulator and click on the name of the game. A complete MAME set minus CHDs (basically arcade ISOs for laserdisc games and larger/modern games) is only like 18 GB, which isn't shit by modern storage standards. If you have a 32GB flash drive, you could literally put just about every pre-2000 arcade game in your pocket.

Apparently not... but what I've acquired so far is pretty badass.. stuff I never played anyway.
When one has over 1000 games to choose from, there's zero point in thinking about games he doesn't have.
Fair enough, but meh... I can't be bothered to set any of that up.

then why are you asking about PS2 compilations of games...you don't have? http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s190/specv4life/emot-colbert.gif

OldSchool, if you're into console's for NeoGeo playback, you can do no wrong having a modded Xbox with the latest version of the CoinOPs MAME emulator. The NeoGeo compatibility is great.

Always got to have the last word for the sake of inflaming an argument.
Why isn't this guy permanently banned again?

Really? Damn... Anyway, yes, I would go for the modded Xbox route. That's what I plan on doing to my own Xbox.

Well, I worded that wrong... I should have said, "one doesn't need to care about games he can't have or has to go through lots of work to have".
I'm asking about PS2 Comps because I wanna make sure I've got all the good ones.
better ;)

He's entitled... I worded that statement wrong and it looked dumb.
Fair enough on the Xbox idea... any reason why that'd be easier than setting Mame up on a dedicated PC? Honest question...

I'd say it's much nicer to play MAME games on a modded Xbox because you can sit on your sofa with up to 4 controllers without using an adapter of any kind, which would be nice on some of those 4 player games.

because I make legitimate responses to questions and statements, and when compared to many members here that just hop in a thread, take a shit, and high tail it out to never been seen again (*cough* Metal Sonic *cough*), I consider myself one of the more relevant posters here.

Well, again, it's not alot of work if you use the torrent I sent you. Download, extract, enjoy, that's really all there is to it. PirateBay won't seed torrents full of viruses or other crap unless it's r-tards with celebrity sex tapes and shit.
PS2 comps don't have all of the good games. In fact, they're missing some of the most famous Neo Geo games like SVC Chaos (which is on XBOX, but who wants games on that shitty system?), Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves), Last Blade, Viewpoint, and loads of others. Furthermore, the load times are awful (at least in the case of SNK Arcade Classics vol. 1) and the controls lag more than MAME.

It wouldn't be, not by a long shot. Of all of my modded systems, my XBOX is the one that makes me the most uneasy. Unlike just about all of my other modded systems, a soft-modded XBOX can be bricked if you try to clean up your hard drive and delete something you shouldn't. Installing programs via Ethernet is a PITA if you aren't familiar with networking and FTP software (which I wasn't, and it was a PITA). XBOX controllers SUCK for retro games so at the very least you'll need to buy a PS2->XBOX adapter for every controller port you plan on using. For a PC aficionado such as yourself, PC+TV out is the way to go, definitely.

or do the same thing on your computer with a much larger library of controllers using much more accurate emulators.

I hear you.
So I've come to understand... 'but' the comps I've accumulated have just about everything I need.
The Load Times have been ok for such old hardware... and the controls on that SNK Collection (for Wii) are fantastic... very responsive, there's 'zero' lag so I'm not sure which game you're referring to.

Well, I was talking the PS2 version. It's not horrible, but still enough of a difference that I'd rather MAME. Remember as well, my #1 favorite game type is arcade games, so MAME is a dream come true.

They've all run like dreams for me so far... except for Pit Fighter on one PS2 Comp.
