Now that the Nintendo conference has ended, what does everybody think?

I for one am really excited about the Wii. I can't say for sure until actually playing one, but the control scheme seems to work a lot better than I previously imagined. In any case I'm a lot more excited about it than the Playstation 3 and its price tag.

Granted I am dissapointed about the lack of a price given for the Wii. This could be good or bad. Either it's going to be astronomically expensive as well, or they don't want to give a price that will cause Sony to consider a price drop this early in the game.

The current selection of games was less than stellar, though Sony did little to excite me either. Zelda of course looked fantastic and as a Metroid fanboy I'll be eagerly awaiting Prime 3. Red Steel seems to be living up to the hype so far and I really think first person shooters will be right at home on the Wii.

I'm also happy that the Wii's Sonic game will be a solo adventure though the mention of minigames by Sega makes me a little skeptical.

We'll see.

The one thing that struck me about the two conferences is that Sony has lost the point of E3 and the Playstation as a "game console." Their conference was all about convergent media and the PS3 as an entire home entertainment system, compatible with future formats, ZOMG better graphics, etc. Nintendo, on the other hand, emphasised gameplay and (most importantly) FUN. The PS3 is a neat do-it-all home entertainment box, but I didn't really see anything "Fun".

That tennis match between Reggie & Iwata vs. Miyamoto & lucky contestant was a nice touch. They genuinely seemed to be having a fun time. Reggie had one unorthodox serve...

I agree that the selection of games shown off was less than stellar, but Zelda and Wii Sports will be enough to keep the crowds giddy come tomorrow. All in all, I was impressed. The controller truly seems accessible despite it's innovations, and that ease of accessibility was my primary concern regarding the success or failure of the console. Sony is apparantly losing sight of gaming.. Nintendo is drawing a tighter focus on it. Good on 'em.

I am the furthest thing from a Nintendo fanboy, but I really enjoyed the conference and will definitely buy a Wii. Now I'm going to watch Microsoft's conference, which I'm sure will be boring.

I'm looking foreward to Starfox DS as well.

I do think the Wii will have a pretty solid launch and I'm a lot more interested in it than I used to be.

May 11, 2006 - While speaking with Hudson Soft today, IGN learned that the company will bring upwards of 100 titles to Nintendo's Virtual Console. As developer of such classics as Lode Runner, Bomberman, and Bonk, this news is huge for fans of games long past. But that's not all, the news gets even bigger.

Hudson Soft is currently attempting to acquire rights to other third party games to release on the Virtual Console, the company revealed to IGN on Thursday. Developers who no longer exist as actual companies could still see their games make the way to Nintendo's system for downloading. According to one Hudson Soft representative, they "have every single one of [their] lawyers checking into it."

Currently, Bonk's Adventure from the Turbografx is the only actual title announced from the company, and is available to play at Nintendo's E3 booth. Hudson seems to be looking for feedback from gamers on what titles they'd like to see though. IGN was quick to suggest Adventure Island, the classic released on the NES. A knowing smile and "that is important for us to know, thank you," was our reply (so if Adventure Island shows up on the VC, you may thank us personally).

We're very excited reviewing the long, long list of amazing games that Hudson has crafted over the years. Around one hundred titles from them, and perhaps even more, is enough to make the virtual console the place to be when Wii launches this year.

So we're getting a Hudson port of a Sega game ported over to Wii?

I like that they're making an effort to collect other third party games from developers that no longer exist. They're making an effort to make the Virtual Console worthwhile although to be honest I'm still not sold on the virtual console considering the whole internet ROM scene has been doing it for years and for free except for the questionable legality.
