i was gonna test the model 1's stereo capabilities with a cheap 3.5 splitter i got. The thing is im not positive its actually a stereo one and not just a 3.5 to 2 mono outputs now that i read the description more

i usually just get the ones that go male to male but that was dirt cheap and i had an extra audio cable lying around
anyway, does anyone know a good stereo game to test this on? one that would have a sound effect or something coming from only one channel on the left/riight at some point that i could make sure this cable works right and doesn't just output mono? I cant think of any off the top of my head

Any proper Sonic game (except trash like Spinball, etc) should have the ring sound alternate back and forth between left and right. So basically whenever you grab a ring, it should be on one side or the other, never in the center.

Out of the 28 games I have for Genesis, all of them are in Stereo.. so I'm not sure why you're asking.
I imagine every game made for the Genesis has Stereo capability.

Like JR I do use Sonic to test if my stereo is set up properly.
I have a cable like that, and it works in stereo for me (hooked up to a bass amp)

yeah i noticed the first cable i got wasnt stereo when i played streets of rage 2, if your cable is mono then certain parts of certain songs will be missing. that is if you are familiar with the music in that game of course. just got a proper stereo cable a month ago and it sounds like it shoud now. i was begining to think there was something wrong with my model 1 gen.
awesome avatar btw!

like i said im looking for a game that would let you test that your actually recieving stereo properly to test my cables. Im well aware that the games are in stereo =P
i'll try that sonic thing. I aslo have streets of rage 2 and 3.. though im not sure how to test it with that one. its been a while since ive played it so i dont know what music would be missing
i'll boot up sonic and see if the ring sound bounces from left to right over and over.
can anyone think of anything else? I was trying to think of a game that would have gunfire or some sound effect on only one side of the screen

That doesn't make any sense. On mono, it should be transmitting both channels to both outputs. Mono cables plug into a different pin on the Genesis system which outputs mono sound, not stereo left or stereo right.
VA3 Genny1 has a design flaw where the mono out only contains the right channel.

If your cable looks like the one in the auction picture, it is stereo. You can tell by looking at the end that plugs into the headphone jack of the Genesis. If it has two black stripes like the one in that picture, it's stereo. Mono cables will only have one black stripe on that plug.

There's no reason to buy something like that online though.

You can get that thing almost anywhere... Radioshack, Target, Best Buy, etc.
Or if you have standard PC speakers, you can plug them right into the headphone port of your Genesis. Out of any classic video game system, Genesis model 1 is easiest to get stereo from since it has a 3.5mm audio jack.
