View Full Version : Time Gal
FMV games - love 'em or hate 'em, they're a big part of the Sega CD's history. Some were actually worth playing, although your mileage may vary as to how much. One title that is worth a play or two is Wolf Team's humoristic Time Gal, which sends the player on an obstacle-filled romp through different periods in history. It didn't set the world on fire, but it didn't burn anyone's house down either. If you're looking for another disc to spin in your Sega CD, this one's good for a few hours. Read our full report (http://www.sega-16.com/forum/../Review-%20Time%20Gal.htm) for more info.

I just couldn't get interested in Time Gal, and I tried many times. I even liked that other Wolfteam cartoon game better... Ninja somethingorother. I've never been a big fan of anime so I always thought it was insanely retarded how Time Gal would turn into a little doll when she died. People who worship everything Japan will love that and jack off over it all night, but that type of animation is not for me.
Road Avenger will always be the king of all LaserDisc games (though the Sega CD version had redone music by Motoi what's-his-face and also the theme song which was not in any other version). Even Cobra Command/Thunder Storm was kind of cool.
Are there graphics over the top of the video in Time Gal? It's obviously not just plain video (see the intro).

No, but Road Avenger was ported to the Pioneer LaserActive system under the title "Road Prosecutor". I would think the graphics would be better for that system, but maybe not.

Yes, there are Saturn versions of both games. I don't think there are more colors.

There isn't a Saturn version of Time Gal, but there is a Road Blaster (Road Avenger) and Thunder Storm dual-disc set (Thunder Storm was known in the states as Cobra Command). I have this game(s). There are TONS more colors but still plenty of noticable compression artifacts. One thing to know is that WolfTeam completely redid the audio to both games (not sure about Time Gal)... for the better. The cool intro song isn't in Road Blaster and the audio is much weaker. Thunder Storm almost sounds like mono compared to the Sega CD version which sounded incredible. I would post pics, but I am kind of lazy. Maybe later.

You know what?
I saw a big write-up for Time Gal in GamePro as a kid, and it was the one game that sold me on trying to talk my mom into buying me a Sega CD.
It didn't work like I wanted it to. I STILL don't have one.

Uh, yeah, there is a Time Gal for Saturn, in a two-disc set with Ninja Hayate (Revenge of the Ninja).

An interesting thing about Saturn Thunder Storm: If you have the software to view Cinepak files, you will find some pre-production sketches on the disc. I don't know if there's any way of accessing them in the game.

OK I didn't know about it. There are gonna be more colors, though. Now I'll probably have to get it.
Can't Quicktime play Cinepak?
Can't Quicktime play Cinepak?
I have no idea, since there's programs made especially to look at Saturn Cinepak files and even convert them to AVI.

I wonder why they changed the name to "Road Prosecutor" for the Mega LD release?

Did they? Personally I prefer Road Avenger over both Road Blaster and Road Prosecutor. If they ever release a version for another system, what will they call it? Road Justice of the Peace?
CRV how do you know there is a special video file if you can't view it?

I had downloaded some Saturn Cinepak viewing software a while back (actually, it might have just been a codec or something) and was watching the video files on the disc.

What emulator was used to grab the screenshots? Any one I tried never ran right, so I had to dig out the real Sega CD to play.
Same with Road Avenger, actually.
I use Gens for all my screenshots.
