I want to get some feedback about the site covering Genesis-related news from this year's E3. Should it be something we do every year or do you think it goes outside of the site's bounds?

Opinions?

It was OK. I'm all for it just as long as the news postings don't remain under the "Features" section forever like legitimate Sega-16 articles do. They should only be up for a month if that. The discussion about them on the forums can stay forever. But all of the features on the site should be about the Megadrive/Genesis and crap like that.

PS - There was no Genesis-related news at the E3. The console is no longer supported by Sega, believe it or not. Unless you consider the new DS Castlevania to be Genesis related because it may be a successor to Bloodlines in some roundabout way.

If it was Sega Genesis news or related then it should be posted.

By Genesis-related, I mean anything that has to do with games that were on the system or originated on the system. Castlevania is related in that it's a sequel to Bloodlines, and Golden Axe relates due to having 3 installments on the console.

It's not like we're going to post everything at E3; that's what sites like IGN and 1up are for. I just felt that it would be cool to see how things that got their start on the Genesis are still going on today. The focus of Sega-16 has never been to only concentrate on those events that occurred between 1989 and 1995. Anything that has to do with the Genesis, from events leading up to its launch to the continuation of its franchises, are all fair game. Consider the E3 coverage as discussion about the Genesis's legacy.

Fair enough. Just as long as it isn't too intrusive, and so far I don't think it has been. So it's cool. Just as long as there are no "Halo 3 is teh roXorZ!" articles. :)

It was all right, but it seems sort of pointless to document franchises that have evolved so far past the days of the Genesis. To be more specific, I think that these later games have changed so much since their franchinses graced the Genny that it's not really relevant to talk about them. (Castlevania in particular.)

The news was all related to the interest of Genesis fans I guess.

It doesn't fit with the site any worse than the Adventure era Sonic banner does :P *runs!*

I'm all for it, actually. It's gives the few of us across the great big pond a quick look into what the future holds, even if it *is* just companies showing off their next gen muscles and pointless gimmicks. The point being: you guys get to see and hear the premieres and novelties, usually a considerate time before we do.

I vote for keeping this up. So far it's been rather informative, regardless of how I stand against the developments.

I see it from two perspectives: Genesis gamers viewing where their favorite franchises are headed, and new gamers seeing where some of the latest games come from. Not everyone who comes to Sega-16 is a diehard Genesis gamer, and it's important to give the console its kudos when its franchises take off.

Take Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, for example. I'm sure there are many out there who had no idea it's the sequel to Bloodlines, or that there even was a Castlevania game on the Genesis. Hopefully they'll read our feature and decide to read our review, and then go back and play the first game. Sega-16 would have given them the background info they needed.

Like I said, we're not just about covering what happened between 1989 and 1995. Nostalgia is a big part, but we also want to bring the Genesis to a new generation of gamers who aren't familiar with its history or franchises.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with SEGA-16 presenting content that's within the SEGA family. I'm sure your devoted readers will appreciate that you're making an effort to present content with your own personal spin, without taking too much attention away from the site's primary focus. And as you pointed out -- this can offer a rewarding retrospective that takes readers back to a particular title's roots and potentially educate someone about something that was unknown to them before.

It's not surprising that some would be alarmed to encounter such a distinctive unit of content when SEGA-16 has defined itself as a veritable online desintation for reference and nostalgic value. In the end, there's nothing wrong with thinking out the box. Keep up the good work.

I have no problem with Sega-16 covering E3. It's nice to see coverage from a retro-gamers viewpoint. But as was already mentioned, we don't need to see items about the "biggest and baddest" next gen games. That's what IGN and Gamespot are for.

Nah, we won't cover anything that isn't directly related to the Genesis, through sequels, or franchise revivals.

Still, if coverage is willing to extend itself past the system into future titles, then shouldn't/wouldn't the site also then cover SMS and arcade releases as well? Saturn and Dreamcast coverage? I know I wouldn't be adverse to seeing this eventually evolve into a general stop for all things Sega related. I suspect it'll have to at some point once everything Genesis has been covered, but that's just me. :)
