I found out about this site in the King of Kong: a fistfull of quarters movie, and im thinking about going for the shinobi III world record. i noticed that the current record was set on the ps2 sega genesis collection(around 219,000?), ive beaten the current record for sure but in order for it to be legit it has to be submitted via video,

i know a few tricks that rack up serious points in shinobi III, and am quite good at executing them in game. im even willing to bet that im easily in the top 5 in the world at that game at least.

so wish me luck!

anyone have any disputes with some of these records, or the site?

any records that you feel you could break?

It looks like there is a new Donkey Kong Champion. Some guy named Hand S. Chien.

LOL King of Kong was an awesome documentary.

Also that would be sweet if you made it into the Twin Galaxies records. Good luck!

I totally ruined the Sonic the Hedgehog high score, snagging about 495,000 points by the end of the game. I don't even know how the measly 280,000 I saw on there last time even qualified. There were some definite ways I could have gotten even higher than 495,000 and I wager even up to about 600,000 if I played my cards right.

Didn't bother to videotape or submit simply because Sonic has never really been about score; it would be much more of a victory if I were able to set some kind of record for fastest time through the game. Part of me still wants to submit my score, just because 280,000 is way to small to let live.

IIRC I could've made the top 10 in NES tetris. I think the main reason the scores are so low is because it's a PITA to try to get your score on videotape and have it good enough to be irrefutable.

Truth.

I have a shit video camera, and the only way I can see getting enough legit footage, would be to do both a direct video out put, and a picture in picture of me playing the actual game side by side.

Not worth the effort for a record title nobody cares about.

Hmm, all you really have to do is hook your console up through a vcr, insert a blank cassette and push record. You guys can keep your fancy iphones and digital cameras.

They are pretty strict about how its recorded though, for intance absolutely no pausing is allowed(unless its crutial to gameplay like in shinobi III), and you have to go through the options to show how everything is set.

I just did a practice run through the game today and totally destroyed the record, this record is mine!

I have reached 280,000 and 315,000 points in a recent practice playthroughs, destroying the 260,000 held by Ryan Sullivan, who has a shitload of impressive records: http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=22&p=41383

He's a very good gamer, knocking off his Shinobi III record will mean something.

I will own this record, Ive just been trying to make sure that when I send in my tape, someone doesn't turn around and break my record a month later.

I think Im ready. Just need a blank VHS.

Ill keep you guys posted.

I noticed that he rebroke the record on original hardware(was 217,000 on PS2 collection) on 5-21, the same day as my last post in this thread. Maybe Ryan is reading this!

Well if so, you better keep practicing because your pitifull 260,000 is about to come down!!!!!

I just picked up a VCR today at a resale shop. The current Shinobi III record is coming down very soon.

I noticed someone set the mark at 280,000+ earlier this year on the PS2 Sega Genesis Collection. I can do 280,000 in my sleep! I will be setting the record on real hardware though, naturally.

Good luck with your score!

I cant understand why they still only accept VHS.
What's to stop someone from recording digitally and then transferring that to tape? I doubt they're that sophisticated to be able to tell the difference.

I just smashed the record on tape!

355,567 points! Good luck breaking that any time soon:o

The current record on real hardware is 260,000+, and 280,000+ on the PS2 Genesis Collection.

All I have to do now is send it in. Ladies and gentleman, we have a new world record!

Thanks guys!

I have to print out a submission form to send in with my tape, and I am currently out of ink in my printer(and broke). It usually takes up to 2 months for the score to go up after you send it in, so I'll let you guys know when its official.

I wish there was some way for me to show everybody the playthrough, I really got into a zone, and was just hitting everything perfect. I watched the tape again over the weekend, and it is truly beautifull, I'll have a hard time ever playing through the game as perfectly as I did in that run. I did notice one thing while watching the tape. I still had a bunch of lives left at the end of the game. I could have "milked" a bunch more points out of the game by purposfully dieing to replay levels. Not sure if they would accept that, but it would pack on a bunch more points.

Shinobi III is kind of like Pac Man in that there is a "Perfect" way to play the game in order to get every possible point that there is to get. I fired the game up on the first take, without any practice runs(hadn't played the game in months), and just had one of those moments that I probobly won't ever have again, and got closer to a "Perfect" run through Shinobi III than I had ever gotten.

Such an amazing action game that I just can't put it into words. Shinobi III is almost video game perfection. I love it. All other video games just fall short in my opinion.

The official score was 380,160 points, breaking the current record by OVER 100,000 POINTS!
