I say we could use an IRC chat, as does this topic http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7896 (which is still on the 1st page of this forum

Praise-Raul has logged in.
The chat feature has been removed.
I'd give it maybe three days.

At the rate this is going... perhaps an unofficial IRC chatroom could be held? Run by trusted members and such? It wouldn't really be too hard to set up, just take a preexisting server and set up the room there. All that'd really be needed is a quick Mibbit link... and, well, that's about it.
Though, I'm not really all too knowledgeable into the politics of all this, so, someone feel free to throw a brick at me.

Integrated Java chat will do the job, it is simpler and appealing. It "might" enforce the community, after all a chat and forum combined, seems more complete than just a forum, and why not, maybe even more fun, anyways, agreed on this.

This is never going to happen. Why would anyone "chat" via it than use PMs or talk on the board???

Because a form of instantaneous chat without having to post a message that requires manual checking (Or more of it then a chat room) basically makes people feel more reassured that they're going to be able to talk to other people.
That, and it's kind of difficult to have a three way private conversation via the PM system... and having a private conversation inside a forum would kind of spam them up a bit. Essentially, it's for the sake of simplicity, to have a chat room. I do personally dig an unofficial one being set up on Freenode, Darkmyst, or BadnikNET (Mainly because I frequent those servers, heh), assuming no official chat room is made.

Well, if we had one I'd visit it.

If you guys want, I can write up a short, simple guide to IRC chatting, and see about making a Sega-16 chatroom in a network.

That would be very helpful indeed.

Yea, that's just a Java IRC client.
For those with an existing IRC client, and know how to use it, we now have a channel registered on Freenode, at #sega16
edit: http://java.freenode.net/howto.php
This is the offical Freenode one, that you can embed into a webpage or somewhere on the forums. There are many many others

Combine a chat room on the main website if you want people to uses it if the log in and see they can chat more likely to uses then even just a linked chat room. Most linked chat seem to be dead vs one that is part of the main site on the front page of the forums. I meen uses on that intergrated to the main forums dont link to the no one ever uses them hardly there usually dead unless they log in and its already part of the site no a separate part.

Yeah, I agree. Putting a link and maybe a thread for the chat room on the forums would really be beneficial.

Don't link it just make it part of the website when they log into to uses the forums. Don't link it no one gona uses more people might but nearly as much if it was right there were they could see when they log in to uses the forums.
