Strider Hiryu is one cool dude, no doubt. Just imagine a 3D adaptation, ala Xbox Ninja Gaiden.. that'd be righteous.

Somehow I don't think Strider 3D would turn out so well.

Capcom ports on the Genny have always been a mystery to me. Some things I have always wondered:

1.) Why are ALL the Capcom ports so damn good? Forgotten Worlds, MERCS, Strider, were they more?
2.) What Sega division was responsible for these ports?

One more thing that I found odd about NES and Genesis ports of Strider... both games are not only ridden with flicker and slowdown, but are quite buggy. I wonder why that is.

Keep the action tight with a great game camera and highly-responsive control, and Strider would absolutely rip in 3D. But it'd probably be bungled...

The control of this gam drives me nuts these days. The arcade version never bothered me, and I don't think I even really played it until years after it came out, but the Genesis (and Playstation) version(s) bugs the hell out of me control-wise. Just way too unresonsivve and floaty. Everything has to be so pre-planned and memorized that it's counter-intuitive and plain boring.

And even after saying that, basically trashing the game, I can't say I really dislike it.

I know what you are saying, and agree. Even the NES version is buggy as all hell.

I could forgive all the flicker on the Genesis version when it was released, but now I can't stand it. This is one poorly programmed game.

You're trashing EGM's 1990 Game of the Year? :P

The flicker is bad. I was wondering if it was just my cart. I don't think there's any mention of it in the reviews for the game. How typical.

IIRC, the arcade game had flicker too, but no slowdown.

Hm. I played the Gen and PS versions the other night and the Genny version had noticeable flicker whereas the PS did not. I don't know if they improved the PS version over the arcade version, but it's possible.

Strider is bad on the Genesis : gameplay and some sound effects are just awful. Doesn't aged well.
Graphics and music are acceptable. Average Capcom port of the arcade title compared to Ghouls' or Forgotten W. ones.
It was one of my first Megadrive games but I played other similar better games (like Mystic Defender). Strider quickly met the dust.
