View Full Version : Sagaia
Taito has given many consoles a taste of its Darius franchise, and the Genesis was no exception. Though the name of the second game was changed to Sagaia, everything else is pure Darius fun. Our full report (http://www.sega-16.com/2006/06/sagaia/) tells all, and you know you just can't get enough of those massive space fish!

Who cares about the errors. This game is great imo and was an awesome purchase back in the day! Now that I have a working Genny again I will have to find myself a complete copy. Props on the review.

Yeah, sorry about that. I thought I had proofread it but must have gotten it mixed up with Russman's Doom review. I've since edited it, so it should be better now. :)

"The first stage near the sun is great with the background showing how hot the sun is, but after that the stage are completely average."
Good article. The only Darius game I've played is Darius Gaiden for Saturn, a great game imo, so I may have to check this one out.

First Saturn game I ever played, bought on clearance at a Toys R Us that was going out of business. Fun game, I oughta try Sagaia.
G Darius for PS1 is awesome too, and if you liked Darius Gaiden, then you'll enjoy it too.

Really? I had the opportunity to buy G Darius a couple of times but I passed it up because I didn't know anything about it. Hopefully it'll still be collecting dust at the shop when I go back to college in the fall.

If you want a more complete version of G Darius and you have a japanese PS2, you should check out Taito Memories Vol.2. There's no slowdown or loading like in the PS1 version. Btw, the excellent Darius Gaiden is on Taito Memories Vol.1.

The only Darius game I've played was the arcade original. It was in one of those huge 2-screen reverse image cabs....like the exact same thing that the original arcade Tecmo Bowl game came in. I think they were supposed to give like a psuedo stereoscopic view that added depth to the environment, almost like virtual boy.

Ok people rip on Eliminate Down having terrible audio, but this game is something else, it's like the sound effects were meant to hurt your ears lol. Still a fun game and all, but holy crap I need to have the volume way down when playing this.

Hey, Pal! What Is your MD/Genesis Model?
The game has great sound... But is one of those that sounds horrifying on VA7 Model1 or Model 2 MD/Genesis.

I played it on my HDG model 1, which is why I was so surprised at how bad the sound effects were. I was on a shooter binge that day and had just played Eliminate down before hand, and it didn't sound all that bad. Comparatively Sagaia was much tougher on the ears.

I have this one in Pc-engine CD Format (Super Darius 2), and it is nearly arcade perfect.
As for the game itself, It's a good shooter experience, though some background tend to repeat too much (planet surface).
With out a doubt, the best part is fighting all the unique bosses.
3.5/5

Super Darius 2 is radically different than the arcade Darius 2 and for my taste is all the better for it. The quality of the graphics is very close overall with many superior looking new enemies.
Sagaia/Darius II MD was also rebalanced for single screen play and they did a great job scaling everything down overall. I love both as well as Super Darius/Darius Plus, but I really didn't like the SNES Darius games.

darius twin sucked, so fucking unfair when the game just throws EVERY FUCKING BOSS at you at the final stages, they just throw them, super nova was awesome though.

Darius II is one of the games you need to play with headphones on a HD Model 1.
