Basically, what do you guys think would make a proper roster for the third game in this series, if it would even exist.
Just a reminder:
Volume 1: Sonic 1, Altered Beast, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Flicky, Kid Chameleon, Golden Axe
Volume 2: Sonic 2, Gain Ground, The Ooze, Alex Kidd, Columns, Ecco the Dolphin
And now the guessing begins!:
Sonic 3 or S3&K: Why not? The III volume needs the third game, and having a IV volumne put together seems kinda far fecthed. Even if it wasn't Sonic, it would probably still make the list.
Streets of Rage 2: Suprisingly not on the first two, the Streets of Rage series needs to be represented somehow, and the second one should be the best choice for it, if mostly for the fact that it's ignored in most Sega Comtiplations.
Vectorman: Simply put, what the hell is this doing on the list of games that aren't in volumes 1 and 2? A cult classic and for good reason.
Ranger X: A very underrated run-n-gun that could finally get the following it deserves if put on the controller. Alos, the game is just awesome in itself.
Shadow Dancer: If Revenge of Shinobi needs to be here, this should be the game used. While all 3 are classics, this one seems to be the fan favorite for the most part. Alot of gamers are dog lovers.
Virtua Racing: Way ahead of its time, and could easily work here. The only problem could be the added chips needed for it to work.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles -- gotta have Sonic.
Vectorman -- should have been in the first one, no doubt.
Streets of Rage 2 -- ditto. Most people's favorite in the series.
Phantasy Star IV -- who says we can't have an RPG? This is the Genny's best one, and it's always left out of compilations.
Toejam & Earl -- despite how badly #3 flopped, people still have a fondness for the original game.
Ecco the Dolphin -- at the time this was considered a major franchise for Sega, and it still sort of is. Definitely worthy.
And lastly, it should have a slot in back for input of Genesis cartridges. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

- Streets of Rage 2
- Ristar
- Revenge of Shinobi or Shinobi III
- VectorMan

Ristar- This should be their too. Maybe we DO need a Volume IV.
Phantasy Star IV- I wouldn't want to have to spend extra money just for the battery.
Toejam & Earl-The length may keep this from being on
Ecco the Dolphin- Um, it's already there...

I say hand the project over to Tec-Toy
They'll probably find a way to support 2 players, and cram in 20 games across all relevant genres while still including the needed basics.
I think the problem with the larger games is the mystery of how to fit a saving battery in the unit. But that shouldn't be that hard :?

Flash memory is cheap. Problem solved.

No reason to. Regardless of actual gameplay length, it's still only an 8 meg cart, iirc.
Ecco the Dolphin- Um, it's already there...
Oops, maybe I should've paid attention. I'll say Doom Troopers instead.

I was thinking Doom Troopers, but then I remembered that it was on SNES too.

Yeah Doom Troopers was by Playmates. I was trying to come up with something quickly.
Let's say Decap Attack.

The former 2 in the series had a puzzle game each, so I'd expect that trend to continue if #3 ever were to condense from these hypothetical vapours. Columns III would be a natural choice, I'd think. Here'd be my personal picks..
-Ristar
-Columns III
-Eternal Champions
-Ranger X or Shinobi III
-Vectorman
-Streets of Rage III
..it'd give a nice sampling of the '93 - '94 crop. Sonic 3 would be a great addition, but it's readily available on the Sonic Mega Collection, so why not give Eternal Champions a bit more fame?

So is Ristar, you silly man.

Ristar could use the exposure.
That it could. It's one of the most underrated platformers on the system, IMO.
Didn't they also release the genesis version of Street Fighter 2 special champion edition as plug n play? it comes with ghouls and goblins the genesis version.

Yeah, Capcom did that.
Pretty expensive too. I've seen that thing retail for as high as $45.

I'm right there with you all about Ristar and Ranger X. Both of those games were pretty much ignored when they were released. I wouldn't mind seeing maybe Thunderforce III on a compilation cart. That still is, for me, one of my all time favorite games.

The Plug and play devices are essentially a Genesis 3 with a chip instead of a cartridge slot. I read about a guy who replaced the chip with a cartridge slot, so it should be fairly simplistic to add a saving battery. However the addition of a battery could drive the price of the unit up by too much to make it profitable.

It would be great to have all of the "3" games like Drixxel said, but this is my plan:
Sonic 3
Revenge of Shinobi
Streets of Rage 1+2
Ristar
