Why does everyone complain about sound/music on the 32X? Correct if I'm wrong, but isn't it true that the 32X does not modify the Genesis sound capabilities at all? The only difference is that 32X cartridges usually held more data, which meant higher quality sound files. The sound in most 32X games is just as good as, and often times better, than normal Genesis sound.

So why do people keep on griping about the 32X 'pathetic sound'? Are they expecting it to sound like a Playstation or an N64?

I think you're correct--32X does not enhance Genesis sound capabilites. But after their "they're making an arcade machine, honey" ad campaign, I think people may have had unrealistic expectations.

The 32X adds two PWM digital sound channels and are often used for voice in games like Metal Slug or any other 32X game. The PWM channels are used for the drums in Knuckles' Chaotix.

Yeah, the drum sounds in Knuckles' Chaotix are noticeable. Also if you play a game called Tempo on the 32X you'll notice how the 32X helps the Genesis in the sound department there aswell.

Another thing, DON'T play 32X games in the Gens emulator. It doesn't play the PWM channels correctly leaving some very incorrect sound in many games. Always use Fusion as it emulates 32X's sound accurately. Of course, if you have the real thing, just use that of course ;).

Tempo sounded really undersampled to me. It sounded worse than most Genesis games. And yes, I own Tempo.

its pretty much a cold fact....32X has horrid sound compacity.

Yes, it may sound so, but it still makes use of of the PWM channels. You can tell they are in use.

the 32X sends audio across the cartridge port..

just connect speakers to one of the two pins that carry audio then you'll see what's PWM..

Shouldn't I connect and amplifier as well?

Anyway yeah, I know Tempo uses the PWM, but they used it at a very low sample rate. The song sounds slurry, like a low bit rate MP3.

the 32X generates sounds loud enough to be heard through headphones without an amp..

pins B1 and B3 carry sound.. (left and right)

( i was the one to discover what pins B1 and B3 does.. no one knew before)

Ha excellent, that's Knuckles' Chaotix. Overture into This Horizon. And now for the full thing with instruments intact.

You told me to use speakers!!!1!! Not headphones. Any line-level audio signal can power heaphones loudly enough to be heard at the least.

Sega did.
