View Full Version : Revengers of Vengeance
Tsk, I'm so disappointed. This could have been a fusion of genres on a level not seen since The Guardian Legend, and it instead is only a step away from being a total train wreck. Revengers of Vengeance shows potential and promise in several areas, only to ruin it all through horrible execution. On the bright side, we now have a blueprint of how not to make a hybrid. Our write up (http://www.sega-16.com/review_page.php?id=1176&title=Revengers%20of%20Vengeance) has all the sorry details.

Oh yes this game was awful, it sure sounded good on paper, yes, but when you played it: YUCK!
That's all I can really say about this game.

I was so excited when I read about this game, even though it got crappy scores in the article. Then, ten years later I finally played it, and found myself dumping way too much time into it searching for that redeeming feature. Lo and behold, Melf mentions the same thing here.
Good work, Mr. Horowitz. Right on target.

I believe the following info is incorrect:
Publisher:
Micronet
Developer:
Extreme Entertainment
It should be the opposite, with Micronet as the developer and Extreme Entertainment as the publisher.

Can anything good come out of Micronet?

Heavy Nova! Oh wait...
I did actually kind of like Black Hole Assault. Not stellar by any means, but I was entertained when it was new.

Heavy Nova had great opening and ending sequences, and I actually get a nostalgic feeling when I think about the way the music, graphics, and general obscurity of the game combined to provide such an odd feeling when I played it. The platforming sections actually weren't that bad.
Then I remember the boss fights, which are pretty much the cheapest things I've seen on the Genesis. "Ooh, I know! Let's go play Heavy Nova and get piledriven over and over and over by a boss that looks just like me but secretly has a god mode enabled! What fun!"

How could you not like that? Heavy Nova is a shining example of quality gaming for all to learn from. [/sarcasm]

That's what made that first guy so easy; no legs. I remember you were supposed to get weapons to use each time you won a fight, but I could never really get them to work. Instead I just got punched, then picked up, punched down, then picked up again. I came to hate that game, even though the rest of it was fine.

There was a alright Genesis port of Raiden Trad which they ported. I'm typing up a review about it.

Just found out about this game through this review, couldn't help checking it out despite the bad score, secretely thinking it'd actually turn out to be really cool and all... it does suck. It look pretty good-like the Ys/Xak-esque towns and some of the characters are pretty cool (I like the Rhino personally), anime sequences aren't bad, and the music is nice, but none of it plays right. At best it's good for wasting a few hours if you have really nothing better to do, but it's still a failure on most level.

Reviving ol' threads once more, I'd have to say I like the general overall feel of this title. I agree with Melf's review that this game needed more (perhaps less, removing the fight scenes). Actually, It would've been a lot better had it had a better fighting engine too. That's my prerogative, really. Overall, I really enjoy this title, but then again, I really enjoy most RPGs (especially the quirky ones).
