View Full Version : System sex appeal
What looks better
Genesis V1 W/ Sega CD V1 & pwerbase converter?
OR
Genesis V2 W/ SegaCD V2 & 32x system?
Why am I asking? I have a sega v1 w/ powerbase, and a sega v2 w/ 32x in my personal collection. And I can't figure out which segacd i wanna get?
Are there any benefits of one over the other?

The sexier console is the model II. Think of it as a skinny blonde compared to the dumpy brunette model I.
They're both pretty much the same console, so there's no real advantage of getting either a model I or II. If you want a smaller piece of kit, go for the model I Genesis & Sega-cd combo. The best-looking arrangement, though, is the model II Genesis and the model II Sega-CD.
Model 2 Genesis and Sega CD look oh-so sexy together!

Model 1 Genesis + 32X with Model 2 Sega CD.
There's your best combo.

With model 2 you don't have to wait for the tray to open.

^agreed
Plus the tray won't get worn out on the model 2
The model 2's motor won't wonk out on you the same way either.

Personally I love the Genny1, SegaCD1 and 32X combo. I think it looks oh so elegant and still fits in my entertainment center. The model2 Sega CD is way to long.
Also I have personally had lots of problems with model 2s, along with my friend. He had gone through 2 model 2s and is on his 3rd. 2 model 2s of mine have blown. I still have the same Model 1 Sega CD that I got back when I was 9 or 10 (Im 21 now)

My model 1 broke down on me after only 5 years.
so I have few positive thoughts about it.

I did have to take mine apart once and do a little cleaning to the CDrom, but that was it.
All the Model 2's I had fried somewhere on the main board. My friend had one of his fry on the main board and the other had the power board burn out.

This is the rig I have too; all 1st gen stuff. If you like to take up all the Z-space, or have a skyscraper fetish, this is your rig. Its buggy though. I have to slide the genny to and fro the SCD to scrape the oxidation from the interface once in a while.
And I love how the CD tray slides in and out so smoothly... JVC really did a good job with it. Just like I said, the interface itself gets cruddy quick.

A tad dusty-looking. Don't you ever clean it off?

Actually... no.
I'm never home to use it, I am rather busy all the time. The only time I ever even go online is when I'm here at work (where I am right now).
I haven't even played my genny for months now. I turned it on recently to test it cause I am looking to sell it over on SX in the B/S/T section. I also am selling all my other collection. NES, SNES, 3DO, VIS, (lots of anagrams), XBOX(modded way out), GC, GBASP, GG, DC, Saturn, I have 4 32Xs, 3 genny's, another Sega CD, all kinds of crap.
the list goes on and on...
Hey per chance anyone here looking for a HUGE sonic collection?

I think its Melf who has claim on the comics and strategy guides though.
O.O Mad sonic goodness!!!
I am in the process of getting my segacd v2.
I'll take pictures of my setup for posterity =)

I have 4 32Xs,
Dude, sell me one. The one I bought ended up dying on me, couldn't fix it at all or anything (blew that money away). :(
So yeah, here's one prospective buyer.

The 32X is actually fairly simple to fix, seeing as the main culprit is usually a loosened cable inside the thing.

One downside... I only have cross over cables for one. I do have the cartridge shielding plates.
So if you have the crossover cable I'll sell ya one. PM me.

I gotta say I still think the original Model 1's together look the sexiest. Ive had mine 12 years now and it wors flawlessly. I HAVE given more leeway to the Model 2's, but i still find the Model 1's the best. If we are going by ALL the ones available, then, to me, it has to be the Victor/JVC Wondermega (just a wee bit sexier than the Sega model, which is 99.9% the same exact machine), then the CD-x, then the Model 1 setup and possibly the Aiwa boombox. *sigh* gotta love those lights on the Wondermega ;)

I like the slick look of the Genesis 2 with a model 2 Sega CD, but I prefer the bios of the Sega CD model 1, and the Model 1 genesis for it's compatibility, and better sound.
I can attest to those white ribbon cables being a bitch... I did what the guide said, and now my 32x and Genesis are working like a champ!
