I read somewhere that Light Crusader was the least liked Treasure game out there. What is up with that? I played that game constantially! (I'm currently stuck, and just lack the effort to try again) Is this true? What do you all think? ALso, what might this game we worth? Is it rare?

From the hour or so I have played it is a great game, and a lot more serious than Treasures other games. It IS an underrated game that deserves more respect, but not higher prices like all of Treasures other games. This is the only game that hasn't gone up in price. I guess the lack of advertisments really hurt this title.

I remember a few years ago people thought it was rare, so it attracted high prices, like $15 complete. But nowadays it can be had for cheap. I paid like $3 for a loose copy.

The least liked Treasure game out there is Stretch Panic. I mean, there are some people who like Light Crusader. :p

Stretch Panic has great designs and an interesting gameplay concept. Light Crusader has pretty stiff animation, a poor Gunstar Heroes-y magic system, a generic and lackluster atmosphere, and an arguably game breaking armor drop very early in the game. It's a decent game, but I don't find it fun at all myself, and the European style just seems so wrong. :) The only thing that I like about the game is how realistic the perspective in towns are, particularly with the buildings.

Light Crusader isn't liked very much by Treasure fans because There's nothing Treasure-ish about it. It's got a western art style, a generic sword and sorcery adventure story, and comparitively laid back gameplay when put into perspective with other Treasure titles.

It's not that Light Crusader is a bad game but it's something people weren't expecting and didn't want from Treasure so it was black listed. Personally I'm not a fan of the game but I pop it in from time to time just because the graphics are cool. It's not really rare or expensive and to tell you the truth none of the Treasure games are really "rare" they're just in demand and Light Crusader isn't in demand like the rest of them. I got Light Crusader for $3 loose as well and it was from a shop that monitors prices and rarity of their classic games.

I think Light Crusader is great. The only bad thing is that it's too short. My least liked Treasure game is that McDonald's game, even though I've played it just for a few minutes.

I enjoyed Light Crusader the two times I played it through, but I wouldn't consider it to be rare or especially brilliant. It doesn't deserve all the flames it gets, but on the other hand Beyond Oasis and Landstalker are better games.

I got my copy loose for $5, but I've seen it for $3 as well.

a friend of mine likes Light Crusader better than Landstalker, but I don't think he's played Landstalker. I don't think this is a bad game, just not on par with Gunstar Heroes, ect.

I think Light Crusader is better than Landstalker. It has more feeling, you know.

It just feels bland to me, everything is cliched. I guess I prefer Landstalker's fantasy setting.

Jerk......

Anyway, I loved Light Crusader for the 2 days I had it, until I realized that the save bettery was dead. I later found out that apparantly most copies of it had come with a crappy battery. Pissed me off.

Stretch Panic has great designs and an interesting gameplay concept.

...coupled with lame bosses, and only two "levels" that you play over and over to be able to unlock the ability to play the next lame boss.

The scarf thing was interesting and worked well, but the game itself was just crap.

That's really comparing apples and oranges though, since Landstalker is more an isometric platformer in the style of Solstice/Equinox than an adventure/Zelda-clone game.

I agree. It's a bad game, but at least it offers an idea that you can't find anywhere else. Plus, it is enjoyable for the first few minutes of play, something that I can't say about Light Crusader. It's just so dull to me.

Light Crusader = Zelda clone? Beg to differ. There's practically no similarity.

I totally disagree with you, benjamin. I find Landstalker and Light Crusader very similar, isometric action-RPG:s with puzzles, both inspired by the pioneering Zelda.

Just because it's an action-RPG, doesn't make it a Zelda clone. That's like calling all vertical shmups Xevious clones.

From what I remember (10 years now since I completed it), it's an almost entire dungeon exploring game, although in a isometric perspective that distances it from normal dungeon crawlers in first person view. I say this because there are no external scenarios or world map, just only one city where you begin, and from there you access the dungeon, and going down and even down in that sort of enormous underground complex of rooms.

It's probably not the best Treasure's Mega Drive game (Alien Soldier rocks everyone) and it's true that it's very different from Treasure normal style (NO use of any sort of Manga is the main aspect), but hey, it's not a bad Action-RPG at all. In fact, it has a well managed puzzle orientation, and even some lovely parts like that one you had to dress like a Orc to explore some type of underground Orc city, or that one concerning a hilarious cat shopper.

Wario World gets the award for worst Treasure game, not this.

It's an action/fantasy based game where you roam dungeons, solve puzzles, and fight monsters. That's been pretty much the template for a game being blacklisted as an "adventure/Zelda-clone" since Zelda. :p Sure there are differences including the perspective, but many games deviate from the catch-all banner used to help describe them.

Hey now, Wario World wasn't that bad.
