Which is your favorite fighting series and why?

From any of these Virtual fighter, tekken, soul calibur, KOF maximum, DoA, Mortal Kombat and add anyone that I missed.

I would say Virtual fighter because it has a huge selection of mover per character and it takes alot of skill and it not a botton masher like others. Also I like Mortal kombat because its just a quick stress reliver :).

Dreamcast Soul Calibur is one hell of a 3D fighter.. Soul Blade was pretty cool, but Soul Calibur simply kicks the ass. I've spent quite a bit of time with Tekken 2 and 3 as well, though.. it's a tough call as to which franchise I prefer. Bushido Blade also has its moments..

Bahh, I vote Soul Blade/Soul Calibur. 3D gameplay treats the weapon-based fighting game like royalty.

Series? eh...

I'd say Virtua Fighter but I don't really like VF3 much. I'd say Soul but SC2 was a disappointment. I'd say Virtual On but I didn't like Marz. And Tekken is just lame.

My favorite 3d fighter is Last Bronx, but that's only one game, not a series (where is my damn sequel, Sega?). So I guess I'll say Power Stone, assuming 2 games constitutes a series.

I'd totally forgotten about Power Stone.. I've yet to play number 2, but 1 is a rich source of good times.

Anyone ever play Robo-Pit 1 or 2? It's been years, but I remember them being awesome. Customizable and adorable robot pugilists.. yessir.

I still think to this day that Battle Arena Toshinden is the most fun series, even if it lacks things others have. I usually don't even play to win, I play to pull off the fun specials. :D

Easily Virtua Fighter for me.It makes every other 3D fighter seem like a joke, Sega really cares about how well the game plays, and it shows.

For 3D fighters, it doesn't get much better than Soul Calibur IMHO.

Hmm... probably either Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive, I guess. Maybe Soul Calibur is better, but if so DoA is a close second. KoF MI would be high on the list too; very good games!

Virtua fighter. I'm dying to see virtua fighter 6, it's rumored to be in development for new arcade board that Sega will announce at AOU 2013 next February.

Most 3D fighting games don't click with me, especially the ones from the 32-bit era. But some games like Soul Caliber and Tekken 3 were definitively very good.

The 32/64 bit era is my favorite era for 3D fighters. That's because that generation was when the genre first became mainstream. Because of the genre's surge in popularity, there was a lot of interesting experimentation going on with 3Dfighters at the time.

I enjoy Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter a lot. I also really liked the Fighting Vipers series, but that didn't seem to really take off as much as VF did.

Try Street Fighter IV, it's pretty much an extension on EX3's gameplay minus the 3D.

Bloody Roar. I love the heavy metal soundtracks and the games werent as technical as DOA, Tekken, and VF but to me they were a hell of a lot more fun.

Mortal Kombat all the way!

Which one? Deadly Alliance was a great (although rather limiting) return to form, Deception was probably my fave of this later generation, and Armageddon was just over the top. MK v.s. DC was cool, and MK9 was incredible (and blows all the newer MK games away, IMHO).

Pretty much virtua fighter as a series for me. VF2 and 3tb were the most played of mine. VF4 annoys me and 5 only partially fixes it. I kind of like the ranking and arcades of the later twos but at the same time feel like I'm seeing the game dumbed down for the DVD generation. Also, where is my tiered environments from 3?

For other 3d fighting fare, virtual on and powerstone all the way.

Motion controls brought nothing to the fighting genre. If anything the Kinect fighting games are nothing more than a curious distraction.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2... fuck yeah!!, that game is the epitome of 3d fighting games, it's just great, so much fun, great game mechanics, outstanding graphics and sound, meta game is just... superb, one of the best, if not the best, fighting game ever.

I cant pick between Virtua Fighter and Tekken, they are both so awesome, Tekken 3 is probably my favourite Ps1 game, as for Virtua Fighter its either 2 or 5

VF4 made the series deeper, only in VF5:FS they made it more user friendly, and it was only with a few aspects, and even with that it's deeper than anybody else's 3D fighter.Everybody else is hung up on making the game casual friendly, and that's where they fail.

It got deeper with VF3, "Korean wavedash" technology got famous since then.

MK9.. That game is near MK perfection.

I don't think I can pick just one 3d fighting game series that I like, since i enjoyed several. a lot of the 3d fighting games I liked never had a sequel so I cant list those, the 3d fighting game series I enjoyed the most were:

rival schools
power stone
king of fighters maximum impact
virtua fighter
smash bros

I know, he was saying the series became simpler with 4 though, but it didn't.They've added more and more with every iteration, only Final Showdown simplified things a bit, but it's still the deepest system out there.

Soul Calibur gets my pick. I was hopelessly addicted the SC 1&2, and really enjoyed 3,4, and 5. VF4:EVO is also pretty amazing, although it was tougher for me to get my friends on board with that game because of the effort involved in getting good at it.

^Soul Calibur 2 was probably my single most played game when it was released. Pretty sure I played nothing else for that entire summer.

I watched a soul calibur tournament at a local arcade once and it was actually quite awesome. It's amazing how good you can get at that game. I would have played it if it weren't one of those "hit a button and wait 3 seconds for the move" sort of games.

Series? eh...

I'd say Virtua Fighter but I don't really like VF3 much. I'd say Soul but SC2 was a disappointment. I'd say Virtual On but I didn't like Marz. And Tekken is just lame.

My favorite 3d fighter is Last Bronx, but that's only one game, not a series

Yeah, I had trouble deciding on my favorite "series", too. I mean, I could narrow down a few favorite games but a series? That's much harder to pin down. I guess I will say Virtua Fighter, too, though I do consider games like Fighting Vipers, Fighters Megamix, and even Sonic the Fighters as part of the series.

I remember when I first got Virtua Fighter 32X. I had seen video of Virtua Fighter but I had no idea what it was like to actually play it. We were blown away by the graphics, of course, never played anything like it before. But in short order, I started to become aware of how much more there was to the gameplay given the 3D nature of the fighting. We played the 32X game a lot and I still consider it a personal favorite, though Fighting Vipers for Saturn is my favorite of the entire series.

Virtual On for Saturn is another of my personal favorites. Besides the fact that it's a fantastic game, I enjoyed it even more because I could find plenty of players via modem. It plays perfectly over the modem and you even get the full arena when played by modem rather than the smaller ones when playing split-screen. I still have two Saturns hooked up to play Virtual On this way to play versus.

I like Last Bronx a lot, too, though by the time the game came out, I had a much harder time finding other players.

I enjoy Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter a lot. I also really liked the Fighting Vipers series, but that didn't seem to really take off as much as VF did.

I really liked Dead or Alive for Saturn, though the girls would tease us mercilessly whenever we played it, hah! I always enjoyed the simple counter system because we would get into these long-counter battles, just like an old kung-fu movie. Good laughs!

Dead or Alive 2 for Dreamcast is just amazing looking and it's great fun to play, too.

I still think to this day that Battle Arena Toshinden is the most fun series, even if it lacks things others have. I usually don't even play to win, I play to pull off the fun specials. :D

I never played a lot of Toshinden though I do have both Saturn games. We did get some kicks having gun duels with Vermilion, though.

Anyone ever play Robo-Pit 1 or 2? It's been years, but I remember them being awesome. Customizable and adorable robot pugilists.. yessir.

I've played the first Robo-Pit some. It just couldn't compete with Virtual On for gameplay, though. The designing part would be cool but Armored Core is much better for that.

Bushido Blade also has its moments..

Bushido Blade was a great idea but I never found any good opponents. I don't mean that I am a master at it or anything but unlike other fighting games, you have to have some experience with this game to even be remotely competitive. New players die far too easily, get annoyed, and refuse to play anymore!

Bloody Roar

Oh yeah, Bloody Roar and Bloody Roar 2 were fun games. They were the closest thing to Fighting Vipers that the Playstation had, too. I haven't played them in ages but they were always fun to play.

I loved Street Fighter EX and EX2 but EX3 was such a massive letdown and was a poor way to end the series. Not enough new stuff was added and the tag feature was dreadful and pointless.

Ahh yes, Bushido Blade... a friend and I once had a truly amazing match that lasted nearly 20 minutes. Nothing gives tension to a fight quite like the only sound being footsteps, and the swinging of clashing of swords. By the end of it, both our fighters were limping around with only one good arm.

Good tiiiiimes.

The Saturn has tons of great 3D fighters, I guess it's because the saturns chipset lends itself to the genre? (I remember reading somewhere that in VF2 each character was controlled by a separate CPU or something like that)

I'd recommend Fighters Megamix, Dead or Alive, and Virtua Fighter Kids for Saturn. For playstation of course there's the tekken series, but I find that virtua fighter has a better fighting engine.
