View Full Version : Converting my sister to the Megadrive fold

Now that I have moved back home, I am once again forced to interact with the people that are commonly referred to as family. My former flatmate did have a megadrive, but he never, EVER played with it. It and all it's game swere relegated into a corner of his room and simply collected dust, which saddened me greatly that such great hardware and games were left to gain the dust of lack of use.

Moving back home hasn't turned out half as bad as I thought it would and it's actually ended up turning out something that was rather unexpected; my little sister's love for the megadrive.

Now, I had a spare megadrive from my total set-up and more then enough controllers so I got it set up for her so she could use it. She was more then happy with the set-up and she has been playing a few of my games almost constantly, namely Aladdin and Sonic. So far, so good.

Now, we've just come back from my usual game hunt. Being back home, it wasn't as successful as I thought it would be. The megadrive games have been reduced to one tiny little shelf and being buried within a bargain bucket. However, I managed to find some games and yes - she got some games too. Not many, mind you, but some games.

-Sonic
-Tiny Toons: Buster's Treasure Hunt
-California games (Came as part of a 'Buy One, get One Free' offer)

Yes, I know it isn't much games-wise at all right now and I do want her to expand it. She has definately said she would like to buy Aladdin, but I don't know what else she would like to buy. By the way, she's 16, so she isn't too young for most games.

What would you guys advise in terms of gaming? What angle should I point her to in the start of her own collection?

Maybe Toe Jam and Earl or Rocket Knight adventures. Sounds to me like she'll be a candidate for Platformer style games. Maybe try her on some Shooters. I don't know too many myself seeing how I missed out on that genre 15 years ago for no apparent reason.....

Then there's always Phantasy STar and Shining series.

Yeah, I was thinking platformers was her thing. She liked watching me play Rocket Knight Adventures.

I am also probably going to give her my spare copy of Ballz 3D; it might make a good book-end. :p

Ristar is the king of Genny platformers as far as I'm concerned...hook her up with that and see how she does. :)

Definitely Ristar, and probably Wonder Boy 3, Chuck Rock 2 or James Pond 2.. anything cute and easy to get into usually works ;) Some puzzle games might be good too, like Dr. robotnik's mean bean machine and pac-attack.

Speaking of WonderBoy - WonderBoy in Monster World is pretty good, until the final boss. (Might have to help her on that one.)

Make her play shinobi, and if she doesn't like it give her the clockwork orange setup.

Tie her down and make her play it. I was worried that might be taken some other way, not exactly a wholesome movie.

Whoah I thought you were talking about the fast forward sex scene......My brain is in the gutter.

Also Mystic defender, Strider, and Castlevania are good games too.

Make her play Contra Hard Corps and tell her that if she can't beat it without continuing the very first time she plays that she is a worthless human being as all other people are born with the ability to beat that game as naturally as they drink water. That'll win her over for sure!

Despite being three months late to this thread I'm going to suggest Ecco the Dolphin and Kid Chameleon.
