My dad threw away a ton of old computer stuff, and I saw a ac adaptor that looks like it'd work with a Genesis 2. The specs are different from the offical one, and it works fine with my game gear, and they share the same specs, so is it safe to use or not?

The offical specs are:
Input: 120V AV 60Hz 15W
Output: 10V DC 0.85A

I found a AC power adaptor from a Sony phone and the specs are:
Input: 120V AV 60Hz 6.5W
Output: 9V DC 300mA

It works fine at the moment, so will there be any long term harm? The Genesis 2 I bought came with a Genesis 1 AC adaptor and it'd be hell to exchange it.

The one you found outputs less power to the Genesis than it requires. I guess if Virtua Racing works fine it might be OK, but I'd try to find something closer to the original specs just to be safe. You can always cut the cord off and splice it to an AC Adaptor of proper value. Just be sure to get the hot wire correct when you splice! Of course that won't be a problem to figure out with your handy FLUKE Multimeter.

Color me stupid, for some reason I found ANOTHER Genesis 2 AC adaptor right next to the box, wtf?

Now I need a huge arse power strip with six plugs for my Genesis and SNES systems.

You need the SEGA POWER STRIP! Or two or three.

Speaking of this, I never understood why both the Genesis and Sega CD needed their own power connections. The Sega CD is capable of powering the Genesis. It would have worked just like the TG-16 CD-ROM drive powers the TG-16 itself.

Well, I can't find a power strip with more than four transformer outlets locally. Online I can find a bunch, and I really hate using extension cables.

But the SEGA POWER STRIP will "Segafy" the electric current going to your Genesis. Every single joule gets the Sega Seal of Approval before continuing on to your Genesis for high-powered 16-bit gameplay on the industry-leading Sega Genesis. Plus it says "SEGA" on it. You must have it.

You probably don't have a Fry's around you... but if you do they sell power strips with 12 outlets each about 2 inches apart.

I live in upstate new york where it has snowed in July once. So yeah, nothing is here.

Best buy had nothing, one of the three radio shacks had nothing, walmart nothing, I might check the other two radio shacks, big lots (lol), sears, some appliance stores, Kmart. Damn, I never realized I had so many stores, heh.

I have 3 (6 plug) power bars to power all of my systems at once and it works fine. Well I dont have them all powered on at one time because I am sure that would blow the fuse. One of my bars fits the three sega adapters on it blocking the other three plugs but it works. I ruined one of my genesis' by plugging the wrong power adapter into my sega cd with no fuse. The cd still works but the genesis doesnt.
