My Sega CD locks up every 10 minutes or so lately (model 1 tray loading version), do you think it needs cleaning or is the system going bad? A couple years ago it was doing this, then for a while it was fine, now it's acting up again

The lense is probably a little dirty inside.
Sending this over to the tech aid forum.
It's most likely dirty. Sega CD's tend to sputter and lock up when they have a dirty lens, rather than just not accepting the disc.

What's the best way to clean the lens?

well I open the thing up and take a can of air to it. But if you don't know your way around inside of it I would not advise this as there are a LOT of parts in there you could loose.
so just use those lens cleaners that you can use on any CD Player (I usually do this after blowing out the inside first).
I just use a standard CD/DVD lens cleaner. That hasn't failed me yet.

How exactly do those CD/DVD cleaners work? I've always used compressed air in the past to clean electronics but I'm gunshy about opening up something as hard to replace as a model 1 Sega CD. Is it an easy job, are there special screws or anything like that?
