Hi, I'm new to the forums--but I dig that I've found the vintage Sega community!
I have a question. I found a CDX at a flea market that I picked up for $20, w/o cables. I'm wondering if anyone knows (from experience) if a power supply from a Genny II or III will work in it. I'm leery about trying it out, but building one custom to match it's specs will cost me about $22--more than I paid for the CDX, just to see if it works.
I'm debating restoring the CDX (I'd like to know if it works first) or selling it for parts on ebay. They go for tons of cash there. I've wanted to get a CDX and a 32X for awhile and hack them to hardwire the cartridge connectors together (and fan cool it to keep the 32X from crapping out). Given this CDX's inferior cosmetic condition, this might be the one for that.
Thank you!

CDX uses the same power cord as Genesis 2, Nomad, and Game Gear (can't remember if Genesis 3 was also the same), which is the same as some other system as well, but I don't remember which one.
Also, CDX uses the same a/v out as Genesis 2 and Nomad.

Yes, but are the power ratings on the AC adaptor the same for each unit? Surely the CDX used more power than the Genesis 2. Just because the cord fits and the system turns on doesn't mean it is the correct one.

The Genesis III adaptor should not Work, I haven't tried though... It doesn't put out enough amperage.
You could probably just buy a universal AC adaptor if the Genesis II one doesn't work.

Hey, thanks for the info. I'll check it out soon.
The ratings for the CDX in and the Genesis II adapter are different. I know some electronics are robust and you can use any similar adapter, and some are sensitive enough to fry if you use anything slightly different.
I've checked into universal adapters, too. They're regrettably expensive! Ohwell, I'll keep lookin for them anyway. Thanks for the advice!

$20 for a CDX is pretty darned low, keep that in mind.

HOLLA! :D
I just hooked up the CDX to the Genny II adapter. It works sweetly. But then... I tried my 32X with it, and it works sweetly. I've never, not once, gotten it to work before. I was so excited. I even got a CD 32X game to work.
I'm just excited it works, I'm definitely doing the hacking project to hardwire the 32X to the system.

Still lookin for a good power adapter! I might look for a universal one now that I know they work, even though they're like $50 locally.

I found a universal power adapter for $15 at a local Fry's. The online store listed their universal power supplies around $50--a distinct "hell no."

I wouldn't try Sega-parts.com
I really doubt they have ANYTHING in stock.

Weeeeell... If you actually go and look at the site, you see that they have a lot of stuff. Just at hefty prices.

They say they have Daytona USA: CCE NEtlink edition for Saturn for sale -- gave them a email -- none in stock.

Their page does not reflect what they actually have. They are too lazy and/or incompetant to update it.

It hasnt been updated in ages. Mind you I have manged to purchase one game from them. Sonic Jam. Horibble shipping though, the cd case was distroyed. They didnt even bother using bubble rap. Everything else I tried to get from them was out of stock. I wish my CDX would come. Its nearly been a month *sigh*

I finally got my Sega CDX. OMG its so tiny! It even plays a game that my sega cd model 2 will not, a back up of Lunar 2. I wish I bought a CDX when they came out new. The Powerbase converter fits perfectly on it :) I havent tried the 32X yet. I would love to see someone make a spacer for it.
