Game Gear Battery Life Mods

Recently, I had the misfortune of acquiring the "battery biting" Sega Game Gear. Luckily, there are mods for better battery life. I know that replacing the fluorescent back-light with LEDs and disconnecting the sound board can increase the battery life to ~9 hours, but what would it take to increase that number to at least 10 hours of battery life? Are there other components that can be modified or replaced for greater power efficiency?

Only thing you can do is removal of the high voltage inverter and kicking out the CFL tube and replacing it with LEDs. You'd get 8...10 hours, depending on your batteries.

I plan to put a DS Lite backlight (DS Lite replacement screens are cheap) to replace the CFL tube.
And I will use an ICL7660 (CMOS voltage converter) to get the 12 V / 10 mA needed.

Yes, I already have taken pictures of the disassembled NDSL screen (http://www.obsolete-tears.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4903).
But, that will not be soon, it's been months that mostly everything is packed here because we're looking for a new residence and we're finally about to move in few weeks !
But I'll do a tuto.

I have some concerns:

The DS Lite has a 3 inch screen, while the Game Gear has a larger 3.2 inch screen. The back of the Game Gear's screen isn't flat.

2. The back of the Game Gear's screen isn't flat.[/LIST]you need to detach the white plastic behind the lcd, it should be fixed with a stripe of adhesive under the perimeter. Try to heat it with an hairdryer if you're afraid to break the lcd applying too much force. I was experimenting the exact same thing, but i never completed it... show us the final result then, after the GG, maybe i'll apply it on my nomad too

that's a problem, unless the backlight surface of the DSL screen is slightly bigger than the active area of the LCD. Wich can potentially be, looking at this picture:

if the backlight surface fits the whole space behind the screen, it could be just 0,2inches bigger than needed for DS, but just as you need to fill the entire area of GG's screen.

An other route could be to buy a cheapass chinese LCD replacement for smartphones etc. Check on ebay a replacement for a random device wich owns a 3,2" LCD or bigger, like Iphones, you should be able to get one around 5-15€ who cares about the screen quality, you need just the backlight :p
