View Full Version : Official Undiscovered Genny Games Thread

So, I was thinking there should be a thread on games that are so obscure, not even Melf;) has heard about.

I'd love to start-out with this one:

Disney's Magical Quest 2 - Starring Mickey and Minnie

Did it ever come out?

As per Wiki:
"Originally titled The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey and Minnie, this game was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis and Game Boy Advance. It features both mice, who must discover why the circus suffered an attack from Baron Pete."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney's_Magical_Quest#Disney.27s_Magical_Quest_2_ starring_Mickey_.26_Minnie

I'm having trouble believing this one, specifically when they talk about systems/handhelds that are three generations apart.

This is a confusing thread, QuickSciFi is talking like Magical Quest 2 was never released while it clearly was.

in short :

Magical Quest 1 - Released for Snes but not Genesis, but a Genesis release was going to happen but ended up canceled,
proof of this is in an old Gamepro i have and in the recently dumped Sega Channel rom.
(which contains a list of games that could have been played with it)

Magical Quest 2 - Yes, released as the Great Circus Mystery. on Snes and Genesis.

Magical Quest 3 - Super Famicom (Japan) only.

Then you really should have picked a game that he doesn't have a review (http://www.sega-16.com/review_page.php?id=400&title=Great%20Circus%20Mystery%20Starring%20Mickey %20&%20Minnie) of.

Personally I think those references might hint at "Magical Quest 2", i.e. Great Circus Mystery.

If Capcom had the rights to publish Disney games for Nintendo consoles in Japan, Sega had them for Sega consoles.

But after World of Illusion (which was released the very same month as Magical Quest 1 for SNES) Sega did not publish another Disney game - other than for GG and Master System of course.

That was an excellent game, I need to pick that one up sometime. I have only played the SNES version though. Judging by the YouTube video posted, the SNES version appears to be a bit more polished. The sound track was just AMAZING in parts of that game.

Sorry, I might have picked a video that doesn't do the game justice.

How about this one:

Does look better, but that is also running off the Kega Fusion emulator with most likely graphics filters. The colors do look brighter in that video however.

No, doesn't look like there's any video filter used.

[edit] ...so, was it was just Great Circus Mistery: Starring Mickey & Minnie?

Yep, thats why us hardcore Magical Quest fans call it "The Magical Quest 2 - The Great Circus Mystery"

The Japanese names make it a little clearer.

Mickey no Magical Adventure (Mickey's Magical Adventure)

Mickey to Minnie - Magical Adventure 2 (Mickey & Minnie - Magical Adventure 2)

Mickey to Donald - Magical Adventure 3 (Mickey & Donald - Magical Adventure 3)

I really would have loved all three of these on my trusty Megadrive, such great games.

And here are 2 screen shots of the Japanese and US version.

Not sure what the Genny version is worth but the SNES version of Circus is practically worthless. I just sold a complete one with box and instructions for a lousy dollar on ebay. Let the good times roll....
