Well we all know that zero tolerance has 2 player link play capabilities via the 2nd controller port of the genesis. Just curious if anyone would be intrested in being able to play co-op over the internet with a cable and program.

Id like to look more into this myself as im pretty sure its easily doable, but im not sure if there is anyone out there that would use it or be intrested in such a thing.

Kega Fusion with Netplay, right?

EDIT: As in, 'why don't you do this instead since it's already implemented'.

Nope, original hardware over the internet using a PC interfaced with the genesis.

Well, unfortunatly it doesn't seem like enough people have shown intrest, So i guess ill drop the idea.

If we could see something proving that it is doable then much more people would show interest.

I'm always interested in Zero Tolerance stuff, its just that I've been (and still are) sick as a dog.

Would this by any chance have anything to do with the Xband 2.0 revival or a whole separate entity?

Humm, sounds kinda like a roundabout way of doing that... any plans on how you'd be pulling that off?

Cable from your pc into your Genesis controller port and then use some sort
of protocol to make sure its synced with the other side?

I dunno, just guessing here.

more or less yes :) tunneling a serial connection from your genesis through the PC serial port over the internet to another pc with a serial cable to the other genesis.

ive already got a program to tunnel the serial connection over the internet just need to build some cables and do some testing. in theory it should work no problem as the speed that the serial port transfers data is VERY slow. i dont think lag will be any sort of problem when its only sending at 2400 bps (roughly 2.34kb/sec)

Bought some cable and connectors today and im going to start rigging up a prototype here and see what i can get working. Need to snag a ZT cart.

I've been interested in this for some time now, i really hope you succeed in making this project but it seems you're almost there. Good luck :D

ive got most if not all the hardware to test this idea out here. hopefully ill have an answer either later on today or tomorrow.

Excellent! maybe if it works out you could manufacture Zero Tolerance link boxes that hook into your network. :D

And if it actually works out we're gonna need a completed version of ZT2 more then ever!

sorry guys for falling of the face of the planet. been extremely busy. ive moved this project to the back burner for now. my initial test did not work, however im not giving up as there are more things i can try still...

However, there is some multiplayer information ill be releasing soon that has been right under our noses for a long while now. Ill post it up hopefully very soon. Im just testing everything completely and writing an FAQ and a "How To" article.

bump, im working on this again. i managed to get a project VERY similar to this one to work with the same methods :) so the next try is this one. i need pinouts for the 2nd controller port on the genesis :)

I don't think you can get away with serial, this game is using parallel transfers, most likely usual 4 bits at a time, and that allows for much greater bandwidth than 2400baud

Pinout is :

1 2 3 4 5
D0 D1 D2 D3 +5V
TL TH GND TR
6 7 8 9

hmm.. what speeds are we talking with parallels???
