It seems to me, the obvious choice would be MK3 Ultimate edition, however, I wouldnt feel right without getting your opinion first =)

Hmmmm... You might want to try Mortal Kombat II. Wheither you pick the Genny version or the 32X version you can't go wrong.

I find MK3 way more satisfying than MK2.

Maybe some time with an emulator would help?

I like the first one, but the lack of fatalities makes it less good.

I´d let my hands off all MK-games and play Street Fighter 2.

I have MK3 and it fills my need for killing, I mean, peaceful co-existance. I think I'll go spread some peace and love about now. (runs off and spreads peace)

One per fighter is a bit stingy I suppose, but fatalities are nothing more than fluff anyway. It's the dismal selection of special moves and choppy controls that hurt MK1 more than anything, but it's still kind of a fun game, and the best pick among the Genesis Mortal Kombats for dominance over the SNES equivalent.

Ahaha.. yes, that's probably the wisest choice of all.. SFII:SCE is one damn fine game.

I would go with UMK3 over MK2. MK2 is simplier, but overall, I think UMK3 has actual combos, more characters (Which means more fatalities, bablities, friendships, etc). I think UMK3 has some stages where you can uppercut someone onto the roof. Also, UMK3 has a selection of "ending" you can choose from. However, I think the two play the same, and they're pretty fun.

Personally I wouldn't touch those old MK games with a ten foot stick. They have aged like hell in my opinion. Go the safe way and stick with street fighter 2.

UMK3 has some of the grainiest/most highly compressed textures I've seen. It's a shame it looks so bad as it plays pretty well. I've never played MKII on genesis, but I imagine it would look better with more space on the cart needed due to fewer players, etc.

Anyone care to mention how MK2 looks compared to UMK3?

Since I hated the character designs in UMK3, MK2 will always look better to me.

It has no textures at all. Textures are only used in 3D-games.

MK II no doubt...as for the SF comment, that goes without saying...I can't pass up on a game of SCE :)

I prefer Mortal Kombat 2. I have it on the Genesis and its great. I was never a huge fan of MK3 or UMK3 since the characters looked smaller, about 1/4 of the characters were just pallete swaps, no Johnny Cage, and the AI was probably the cheapest in the whole series. I actually hate Street Fighter. I was always a Mortal Kombat guy and I still am. Man... can't wait for the new one to come out...

Well, I think Mortal Kombat could never compete with Street Fighter in gameplay. It was more of an eye-candy-series, with gore effects to push sales.
The series has improved hugely with the 128-Bit generation though.

Although I have stated I don´t like Mortal Kombat, I´d like to have part 2.
It´s pretty rare in Germany, since it was banned due to the explicit violence, hehe.
