View Full Version : Getting a 32X again! My love/hate relationship
I've had two already, and always end up getting rid of them. This time, however, I'd like to start collecting. I'm not interested in breaking the bank with games like Darkxide and Spider-Man, but would like to get the following:
- Knuckles Chaotix
- Kolibri
- Shadow Squadron
- Zaxxon Motherbase 2000
- Tempo
- Space Harrier
- Afterburner
That's about it. When I consider the costs though, is it worth it?

how costly can it be?
I ususally sell 32X systems for around $20, and the games between $3 and $5 depending on completeness. They sit around for months before any collectors finally buy one.
I'm the same way though. I've personally owned a 32X six or seven times. Whilst the games for the most part are at least average, I just get tired of looking at those ugly yellow boxes. Or something stupid happens and they get crushed, which pisses me off, and makes me want to sell them all.
I'd say if you have the room for it, why not. I hated Shadow Squadron at first, but over the years it has really grown on me, and that is the reason I keep picking a 32X up.

I bought a 32X at full price when it came out, which is why I'm now dead set against ever owning one again. Well, I'd take one for free, but I'm sure as hell not spending a penny on that stupid mushroom again, not even to get Knux Chaotix, thus completing my Sonic games collection.
When I think of all the time I spent saving... ugh.

Did YOU pay $200 (your entire life savings and then some at the time) for one, only to find out a week later that you'd never use it again? In my opinion, the 32X deserves all of the hate that it gets. It just doesn't have any games.
I went from NES to PSOne... in 2000....
I missed out on the good stuff, sorry bout being enthusiastic.

You run a Sega site, but don't own a 32X? I'd expect you to have the entire collection, sans SWOF and Darxide.
Seriously, I seriously recommend:
Afterburner Complete (favorite)
Blackthorne
Shadow Squadron
Its a shame Core never released the rumored 32X version of SoulStar ... I had such a great time with it on SCD...
lol. He's a fan lke the rest of us, not a super rich guru.. =)
Hmm Knuckles Chatoix is listed at $30 on digitpress. Pricey no?
Maybe I'm just a brokeass....

Maybe it deserved the hate back then, but nowadays it doesn't cost much. Hate its past, maybe, but as it is now it's a fine little add on.
I used to have one with a decent collection, but foolishly got rid of it. I'll probably track one down again and stuff it in the closet if I lose interest, instead of selling it again.

If your current main means of playing Genesis games is 32x-compatible, I don't see why not. It doesn't do any harm sitting there (unless you really love the Genesis version of Virtua Racing). It's cheap, and games like Tempo and Kolibri are certainly worth owning, even if they do make up such a small number for 32x.
OMG OMG OMG I got my 32x today... now I gotta wait for the games to come in... =)

I love the 32x (and yes, I paid full price for it when it came out). It was a total rape by Sega, but the bottom line is that there are several really fun games for it. Games I own and recommend:
Afterburner
Space Harrier
Shadow Squadron
Kolibri
Virtua Fighter
Virtua Racing
Toughman Contest
Metal Head
BC Racers
Motocross
Tempo
Star Trek Bridge Simulator
Knuckles Chaotix
Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000
Melf, did you get it yet?
w00t!
I just bought a boxed 32X with some games from fellow Sega-16/TNLer Dyne! I'm getting:
- 32X with box & docs
- Virtua Fighter
- Virtua Racing
- Tempo
- Shadow Squadron
- Metal Head
- Night Trap
All complete! I edited the thread title to reflect this awesome new development. :)
<sob> i want night trap.

Well i've got the game now.
As for 32x and Melf, apparently he's got a problem w/ his s-video mod now...
I just need the adapter (which is on its way) and I can get to playing some Tempo.
Funky as you wanna be!
