I got an idea for an in-depth article. It would be about games that were ported from Genesis to Game Gear (and/or Master System), and talk about the differences and sacrifices made, and how well the 8-bit version holds up. It would include games that weren't Genny->GG ports per se, but appeared on both systems (like arcade ports, and many-systemed games). It would not include cases when they were completely different games, like Sonic 2. I would strive for it to be like the genre articles in that it'd be completely exhaustive.
Would this be a worthwhile article? Any interest?

Do it. I was never a fan of the Game Gear, but I'd still be interested in reading about the differences.
This sounds like the Hard to Port article series I mentioned in another thread. I originally envisioned it dealing with arcade games brought to the Genesis, but this would work too. Games like Gunstar Heroes, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Greendog, and Dynamite Headdy are all great candidates.

Neat article idea. There are only a few Genesis-to-Game Gear titles that I've spent any serious time with (thumbs up to GG Ristar).. I'm all for discovering the differences between the others courtesy of a sparklin' article.
Don't forget the Road Rash port!

What about Cool Spot? I never knew it was a Genesis game, but I thoroughly enjoyed it on my Game Gear. If only I would've had the same philosophy I do now - not to get rid of my old systems/games. Luckily I never got greedy enough to sell the game gear and the 12 games I managed to build up for it (most of them enjoyable). Never did the tv tuner though. Off topic, sorry.
What are the Cool Spot differences? I'd love to play the genesis version.

Best port I can think of is Fatal Fury 2 (Special?). It plays amazingly well for an 8-bit fighter.

If you do it, I hope you realize that the SMS and Game Gear versions of Dynamite Headdy are a LOT different.

Besides the additional BG art, what is there?

It's like the whole game is actually more detailed and more like the MD/Genesis version than the Game Gear.

I've never played the SMS version of Dynamite Headdy... did it see a full European release, or is it some Brazilian thing?

Because of the extra background art and whatnot, it's probably safe to say it was going to be released in Europe/Australia. It's definitely not a Tec Toy hack job. But like some other canned games (Battlemaniacs, Fire & Ice), it ended up getting a release in Brazil (and only Brazil).

I'd definitely be interested in this article. I find this kind of stuff fascinating (for some reason).

I'd be interested in it. I would also be interested in the Sega Master system to Game Gear ports, which the Sonic 1 and 2 on the game Gear can be used. Can't wait.
