I managed to get:
2 DVDs that I'll probably never watch
2 lapdesks (miniature desks for your laptop to rest on) that my laptop doesn't fit on
A 320 gigabyte USB hard drive... which is redundant, because I already own one
A pair of shorts and jeans that I don't particularly care about
A $15 pair of earphones from my sister that is genuinely useful

I also managed to get given a $25 gift voucher, which is pretty useless.

All I got were some £7 trainers that are a bit poorly stitched but at least they are velcro, that's it.

I got the same thing I got last year, nothing.

following tradition, I got nothing as well. One year I got a jar of peanut butter, a thrift store t-shirt advertising an antidepressant and a mcdonalds wind up elephant toy. Hurrah.

It always frustrates me when all my friends are going "D00d I got a PS3 and a new laptop and an iPhone and a Toyota" while I grew up too poor for this sort of thing. Then I feel petty and that doesn't help my mood any.

So lately I've been giving as much as I can for Christmas, which makes things a bit better. For example, I found a minty Intellivision at work in its box, cleaned it all up to look like new, found a big pile of games for it, etc. All for someone I haven't seen in 8 years, because I remember how much he liked the Intellivision as a kid.

The Fantasia Box Set on Laserdisc, the first complete season of Death Note, both of the Hayao Miyazaki-box sets by Pan Vision, Star Wars Ep1 on Laserdisc (JAP-edition, of course), a book about Tim Burton named "Masters Of Cinema: Tim Burton", about $365 in cash and some Dvd's such as The Big Lebowski, Gladiator, M and Citizen Kane.

I gave Fight club (BD) to my brother, Trainspotting (Dvd) to my sister, the first season of School Rumble (Dvd) to my mom and Bulitt (BD) to my dad. That's pretty much it. If my brother watched Fight Club before 2011, I can guarantee that his New Year's resolution will be that he won't buy something from Ikea again.

All you got? I don't know if you're being sarcastic here or not, but that's a bit greedy. A £180 Telescope is a HELL of a lot, and I'd love a Pac-Man hoodie, haha! Not to mention your pound is worth TWICE what our dollar is worth, so that £30 is more like $60!

Wow, that makes me not want to say what I got...but I commend you for giving such a nice gift to someone you haven't kept in touch with, that's rather touching! You deserve a gift yourself...

A Super Mario Bros. Super Show DVD with 5 episodes on it
Two boxes of oatmeal cookies.
A Chocolate Bar.
A bag of caramel corn.
A tiny Digital Camera.
$15 in Gamestop money.

Excitebike for NES
Daytona USA Deluxe for PC

Hey guys! :D

On the morning, last gift. Apparently for the whole family.
I guess - more like a joke - : A PlayStation 3! :p

And, well.
It was, a PlayStation 3! Goddd! :o :o
Ya, first Sony console!

320 GB with the PSMove! Hell crazy!

Then my father said he won a prize, at work; 200 people were participating.
1st prize was a 42" HDTV;
2nd: iPad
3th: Don't remember;
4th: PS3.

And he got the PS3!
Pretty astounding! We're hooking it up, now! :D

When is that PS2, now? :P

You know, I feel the same way for the most part. Unless it's something you know I'll like and I know doesn't exist (I got Mario Kart Bedsheets this year, love them, but had no idea they even existed!), I'd rather just get cash or know what my presents are in advanced. It's just so much easier for both parties I think. I was never a surprise guy myself.

I thought the Little Dot amps aren't bad at all for what it does. Then again when I had my I+ the tubes made the music too fat for my liking. For my Grado headphones I just use vintage receivers and amps to drive them.

Anyway I got cash plus food and I use the cash for this:

Pioneer CF-F900 Cassette Deck from the 70s and Amber 50B Int Amp for my turntable.

I got these MkII because my older brother has a MkIII with AKG K702 which I thought sounded absolutely wonderful. Because the MkIII were too expensive for me and I didn't want to get something we already have and the MkII had good reviews, I got the MkII. I did not get the 702's, though. I got those Audio Technica ATH-M50s which were cheap and had many good reviews. Sadly, my audio for these will be coming from my laptop's crappy headphone jack since a proper digital-to-analog converter for its HDMI out could not be found for a reasonable price.

I got a $1,000 Christmas Bonus on my last check. :)

I bought a couple of DS games for a kid named Heath. His name was posted on a foster kids gift tree. His note said he wanted either Pokeman or Sonic for the DS, a sprite and Candy. I went ahead and bought Pokeman Gold...(?) and The Sonic Collection, plus a tube of candy.

My wife bought me:

4000 MS points card

Fallout: New Vegas (360)
$50 iTunes gift card
A new shelf: I've needed extra storage space for my games for quite some time.

Are you an audiophile? My dad has been trying to get me into that stuff for years, he has way too many amps, turntables, equalizers, etc.

Yeah, but you don't need to be an audiophile to enjoy music. You can have great sound equipment for on the cheap. Now you have a Dad who's into it so if you have interest just abuse him. In the end of the day I found tons of music that I never thought possible when doing this happen so for me it's worth it.

I was looking at the Audio Technica ATH-M50 spec sheet and it has low 38 IMPEDANCE. That might be a problem since the MarkII is a pure tube amp design. Pure tube amps for the most part can't drive low IMPEDANCE to their best performance. Then again when you get your amp just use your ears to see if you like it. If I was in your shoes I would get the I+ because that's a hybird design and will be a better match for the ATH-M50.

Stay away from anything HDMI because you will not find anything good for it and most audio companies stay away from HDMI since it's supposedly full of jitter up the ass and not the greatest way to send out data (heck even Toslink is better than HDMI).

If you need a good DAC solution and have Windows this is my DAC:

http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Digital-Sound-Card-Musiland-Monitor-02-US-ASIO-/260616887126?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cadfa1b56

I'm using this DAC and it pretty much sounds like entry level CD players that goes for $500-$1000.

I don't pay too much for digital since I'm an analog guy. :)

I got:

-Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3(awesome game)
-Some cash(as usual)
-2 bags FULL of old PC parts my mother brought back from work, which includes:

-3 network cards(2 PCI, 1 ISA)
-1 SoundBlaster PCI128 sound card
-2 USB floppy drives(I've been wanting to get one of these for some time for my laptop)
-1 PCI graphics card made by Matrox
-1 ATX power supply(I'm running low on these things)
-2 motherboards: one has an Intel Celeron on it, the other an AMD K6(cool!).
-1 wired router

Also found 3 vintage computers stashed away in my house yesterday: IBM PS/2 Type 8525, Apple Power Macintosh 6100 and an Apple Macintosh Quadra 700, as well as an old 13" Apple monitor. Haven't tried the computers out(I don't even know if I have the keyboard and mouse for the Macs), but the monitor works like it's brand new. The picture is crystal clear and the colors are bright and colorful. The speakers are a little cheap, but that's to be expected.

I don't remember when was the last time I got this much stuff for Christmas.

The MkII can do 32 to 600 ohms, so the M50 should work just fine. If not, I always have my AKG K240's that do 55. Also, I'll try to stay away from HDMI. I was thinking of using a USB digital-to-analog converter, but all the good ones were too expensive. I may look into that DAC thing, though.

I don't understand all the low ratings this game has received. It is a good game. Lots of beat 'em action and lots of blood and gore to boot! Only problems I've noticed is the loading times and that sometimes the camera acts weird. I've already unlocked Splatterhouse Arcade. To those who are interested, YES, it is the Japanese uncensored Arcade version and plays exactly as it should.

Incorrect it does only 100mw at 32 ohm.

Don't believe me here's the Little Dot website:

http://www.littledot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=161

100w at 32 ohms. If you your headphones uses higher impedance then it will be better. With your ATH at 38 ohms it is not going to drive it well.

The Little Dot I+ on the other hand is 800mw at 32 ohms:

I'm not trying to dis you out but audiophile stuff and headphones are my cup of tea. I specialize this stuff.

Well, shit. :?

As long as they sound better than using a heaphone jack right from the computer, I'll be happy. My audiophile brother did help me choose and buy this stuff, but he does mainly expensive speakers and amps for such speakers, not headphones.

All will be found out when the two things arrive. If they end up not going together, I guess I'll have to raise a bit more money and get the 1+ or something. Dammit, I wish I knew more. :D

It should be better than the computer headphone jack but it will not IMO put the ATH to their limits when it comes to drive.

I will let your ears decide but if you have any questions on headphone setups just talk to me. I specialize in this stuff and I can help you pick out good stuff within your budget.

Now I would recommend make an account on Head-Fi.org and look on there. It's THE forum for headphone people.

Oh, yeah, I've heard of Head-Fi. I always actually looking on there to decide between the M50's and something else (I think they were Sennheiser HD595 headphones). I was thinking of joining, but I know so little about headphones and audio equipment in general that I decided not to. After I get a couple more headphones or hear some more and study up on impedance and all that good crap, I might join.

Anywho, I suppose I'll consult you if I decide to buy more. If I'm satisfied with the M50's, I may wait maybe a year and get some nice AKG K702's or maybe some high end Sennheisers.

You don't have to know much to be with Head-Fi. I learned a lot by being on Head-Fi. ;)

But if you have any questions on anything please feel free to PM about anything.

Akira, Paprika, and Inception on bluray, a tie that supposedly helps me learn to tie, well, a tie, buncha Terry's chocolate oranges, and two CDs: Songs in the Key of X, and Science Fiction themes by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

And in a month I'll be receiving a 32GB iPod touch, which was very nice of Santa, considering I already feel extremely guilty about purchasing a 1500$ computer for video editing.

I love you Santa!

Edit: And my family.

You can add me to the "got an illness over Christmas" list. Felt tired and crappy all day Boxing Day and woke up this morning with a nice sore throat :(

Aside from this, I gained a handful of X-mas cards, some money (used to order some Wii games - considering the rate post was already moving before all the holidays, they should arrive sometime next... June) a blanket thing, and some chocolates. Nom.

Even the five court ladies danced in sync to the frog's flutes and drums. The whirlwind of recycled paper was a sight to see; It was like computer graphics! That I don't support Technicolor parfaits and snobby petit bourgeois is common knowledge in Oceania! Now is the time to return home to the blue sky! The confetti will dance around the shrine gates. The mailbox and the refrigerator will lead the way! Anyone who cares about expiration dates will not get in the way of the glory train! They need to fully realize the liver of the triangle rulers. Now, this festival was decided by the third grade class with the telephoto camera. Move forward! Come together! I am the ultimate governor!

They sound better than my AKG K240's, but not as good as my brother's AKG K702's. The amp hasn't arrived yet, but I got these rather quickly, so maybe the amp will come soon.

I asked for clothes this year. So I got two t-shirts from my parents, a bunch of scented candles (don't judge me) and a bag of starbursts. Then, to help me trick out my new house, my sister got me a 16 setting silverware set which beats the pants off my poor-mans-rag-tag-multiple-pieces-from-various-sets cluster fuck I had prior. And to top it all off my car's transmission crumbled to bits. Go Team! :)

'Tis very pretty and sounds pretty good. I still need to burn in the tubes and my headphones also still need some burning in. They drive them well, but it doesn't sound as good as my brother's Little Dot MkIII, probably because he has nice brand-name tubes as opposed to my no-name tubes.
