View Full Version : Favicon?

I use Firefox, and the reason is largely because I can have a link bar using just sites' favicons with no text. "Favicon" is a favorite icon, the 32x32 and 16x16 icon which can appear next to a site in your bookmarks or on your desktop if you save a link there.

Sega-16 has no favicon. Would you, Melf, mind uploading one to the site's root directory? If not, I guess the easiest thing to do would be to use Sonic's head as with the official Sega site, but maybe there are better suggestions.

I already see Favicons with both the link to the main site and the forum, and I'm using FireFox.

Weird. I'm using 1.5.0.5, and I can never get them to display no matter how many times I reload the page or flush the cache. I'll try to bring it up manually now that I know it's there. Thanks!

I'm running 1.5.0.6 and I've got Favicons.

I don't see a favicon for Sega-16 either; I'm using FF 1.5.0.6.

EDIT: I guess you could also try Favicon Picker to manually add icons: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=321562

Some people like that small graphic on their links, there's no need to take the piss. Nobody's saying the site will die if it's not there.

I was being a smart-ass. I've designed Favicons for several sites, actually. I don't know why the Mac version of Firefox won't show them on the Bookmarks list, though... only in the URL bar.

Glad to see others see (or don't see) the same as me. :) If it helps any, I'm now using Firefox 1.5.0.6 and Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180 on Windows XP with all worthwhile updates and still can't get the image to download.

I know there used to be one however I'm not sure if it's still there. It doesn't appear to be in the default location on the server. Perhaps it got lost in the upgrade...

It's cool, I appreciate sarcasm on a regular basis :)

Sega-16 got a favicon today in my Favourites. It resembles a model I Sega Genesis. How fitting!

Not for me. Not in IE and not in Firefox. Maybe I should download Safari, Opera or whatever option is available.

It's been in my Firefox for a very long time. Are you using the version programmed in Mexico or something?

Same for me -- a black box just finally appeared today for whatever reason. I use both Firefox and IE, and for a while even Opera and the fabled favicon would just not display.

There was a favicon a long time ago. So if you bookmarked the site a while ago, then the old favicon would likely have been saved to your computer. The old favicon has recently been relocated, and that is the reason why it is suddenly appearing now for some of you

Shouldn't it always be in the main index saved as favicon.ico?

Yes, it should. but it got lost sometime during the redesign, and Ken and I only decided to find it again recently. So, enjoy!

Yes, it is much better than a blue "e" on a white paper. Honestly!

Um, on my Intel Mac, I see a standing Sonic guy as the favicon. BUT on my XP Pro laptop, I see a model 1 Genesis.

Mac: Safari
XP Pro: Firefox 2 (Latest build)

I had the little blue sonic up for a couple of hours a few days ago. It's probably still in your cache or something.

Screw Safari. Delete it and install Firefox.
